Nu Mexico changes CEO for the fourth time in seven years. Estephany Paulette Ley will take over as CEO of Nu Mexico in early November 2026, replacing Armando Herrera. September 29, 2026 | 05:14 PM Mexico City - The Brazilian-origin fintech Nu announced the appointment of its new CEO in Mexico, which will mark the fourth leadership change since its arrival in the country in 2019. Estephany Paulette Ley will take over as CEO of Nu Mexico in early November 2026, replacing Armando Herrera, who will become a senior advisor to the board and support the transition until January 2027, the financial institution said in a statement. The change comes a few weeks after Nu began operations as a bank in Mexico on August 6, following a regulatory process of nearly three years. The country represents the second-largest market for the Brazilian company, with 16 million customers. The new CEO of Nu in Mexico has more than 15 years of experience in the financial sector and most recently was in charge of retail banking at BanCoppel, Grupo Coppel's bank focused on low-income customers. The changes at Nu Mexico. Nu has had three leaders in Mexico since its arrival in the country seven years ago. Emilio González led the first stage of the financial institution, from its entry into the country in 2019 with a credit card offering, and under his management the financial company Akala was acquired to move into taking public deposits. Iván Canales took the helm in November 2022 and was at the forefront for nearly three years, a period in which savings deposits soared thanks to high yields and the process to become a bank began. Armando Herrera, who came from the Mexican unicorn specialized in small businesses Konfío, has been the CEO of Nu Mexico since September 2025, and under his leadership the transformation into a bank was completed. "When Armando joined the company, his main objectives were clear: complete our transition to a bank, ensure the profitability of our business and maintain our growth rate. After successfully achieving these objectives and after careful consideration, we agreed that it was the right time to begin a new chapter," said Livia Chanes, CEO of Nubank for Latin America, in the statement. "With Estephany at the helm of Nu Mexico and Rodrigo as chairman of the Board of Directors, we are strengthening both our daily management and our strategic oversight and our institutional relations in the country," said Livia Chanes.

Nu Holdings stock drops 10% on Monzo acquisition talks.

Nu Holdings stock drops 10% on Monzo acquisition talks. Nu Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: NU), the parent of Latin America's largest digital bank Nubank, closed 10.01% lower at $12.23 on September 28... - Last updated: Tuesday, September 29, 2026 Quick overview. * Nu Holdings Ltd. closed 10.01% lower at $12.23 amid reports of potential acquisition talks for British digital bank Monzo. * Investors expressed concerns over the high valuation of Monzo, which could range from £8 billion to £10 billion, and the implications for share dilution and integration challenges. * Despite the stock drop, Nu Holdings reported strong Q2 results with a net income of $1.1 billion and a growing customer base of 139 million. * Analysts maintain a positive outlook with an average price target of $18.69, while key upcoming events include Q3 earnings and updates on the Monzo acquisition. Nu Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: NU), the parent of Latin America's largest digital bank Nubank, closed 10.01% lower at $12.23 on September 28, 2026. Trading volume surged to about 144 million shares, well above average, as investors reacted to reports that the company is in early talks to acquire British digital bank Monzo. Monzo deal reports trigger sharp sell-off. The main driver was media reports that Nubank is discussing a possible purchase of Monzo at a valuation between £8 billion and £10 billion (roughly $10.6 billion to $13.3 billion). Sky News and Reuters said Monzo's board is weighing a sale to Nubank as one option, alongside a new funding round. Both companies declined to comment. The potential deal is large relative to Nu Holdings' current market value of about $59 billion. Investors appeared concerned about the cost, possible share dilution if stock is used as payment, and the challenges of integrating a UK business while Nubank is still expanding in Latin America and the United States. Shares fell as much as 10% during the session and finished near the day's low. Strong Q2 results provide fundamental support. Despite the price drop, Nu Holdings' latest financials remain solid. In the second quarter of 2026 the company reported net income of $1.1 billion, the first time it crossed the $1 billion mark in a single quarter. That figure was up 49% from the same period a year earlier and 17% from the previous quarter. Gross revenue reached nearly $5.9 billion, rising 39% year-over-year on a currency-neutral basis. The customer base grew to 139 million, including roughly 118 million in Brazil, 16 million in Mexico, and more than 5 million in Colombia. Average revenue per active customer stood near $17, and return on equity hit 33%. Net interest margin also expanded during the quarter. Expansion efforts continue across markets. Nu Holdings has been pushing beyond its Brazilian core. It recently launched limited banking services in the United States through partner banks, offering multicurrency accounts while it seeks a full banking license. Growth continues in Mexico and Colombia. The company has also expanded crypto related offerings in Brazil ahead of new regulations and authorized a $1 billion share repurchase program. An Investor Day is scheduled for December 8, 2026, with third-quarter results expected around November 12. Analyst views and valuation context. Most Wall Street analysts still rate the stock a Buy. The average price target sits near $18.69, implying more than 50% upside from the recent close. Needham reiterated its Buy rating and $19 target after the Monzo news, arguing the potential acquisition fits a longer-term growth strategy. Valuation remains elevated on some measures. The stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings multiple in the low-to-mid teens and a price-to-sales ratio that reflects high expectations for continued growth. The 52-week range runs from about $11.20 to $18.98. Key levels and what to watch. Technically, the shares are testing support near the $12 level after the sharp decline. A sustained move below the recent $11.20-$12 zone would raise questions about further downside. On the upside, a recovery above $13.50-$14 would be needed to reverse the near-term damage. This week Nu Holdings has no major company events such as earnings or Investor Day. The main story that can still move the stock is any new update on the Monzo acquisition talks. On the market side, key data includes Tuesday's job openings and consumer confidence, Wednesday's GDP and important PCE inflation numbers plus Micron earnings, Thursday's manufacturing PMI, and Friday's big U.S. jobs report. Strong economic data could help risk appetite and support a recovery in NU after its recent drop, while weak numbers or higher rate fears may keep pressure on the shares. Fresh Monzo news remains the biggest potential short-term driver. Moreover, the next major catalysts are the Q3 earnings report in mid-November and the December Investor Day. FAQs. Why is Nu Holdings stock falling today? NU dropped after reports that Nubank is in early talks to buy UK digital bank Monzo for £8-10 billion. Investors are weighing the cost and integration risks against the company's strong recent results. What is the outlook for NU stock? Analysts remain generally positive with average targets near $18.69. Key levels to watch are support around $11.20-$12 and resistance near $13.50-$14. Upcoming earnings and any updates on the Monzo discussions will be important. Bottom line. Nu Holdings' latest decline is driven by acquisition rumors rather than weak fundamentals. The company continues to post record profits, grow its customer base, and expand into new markets. However, the potential Monzo deal introduces uncertainty around cost, dilution, and execution. With the stock now trading near the lower end of its recent range, investors will focus on whether the company can maintain its growth momentum while managing any large international transaction. 10 best forex brokers. | / | MIN DEPOSIT $100 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $0 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $100 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $250 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $0 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $2,000 | Visit Now | | / | MIN DEPOSIT $0 | Visit Now | Arslan Ali Butt Lead Markets Analyst - Multi-Asset (FX, Commodities, Crypto) Arslan Ali Butt serves as the Lead Commodities and Indices Analyst, bringing a wealth of expertise to the field.
