Requirements
  • A technical Bachelor's degree and the following relevant experience are required by level: Level 1 requires 2 years, Level 2 requires 5 years, Level 3 requires 8 years, and Level 4 requires 11 years.
  • Relevant experience must include computer or information systems design or development, programming, information, cyber, or network security, vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, computer forensics, information assurance, and/or systems engineering.
  • Experience in network or system administration is required.
  • A Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance with polygraph is required.
  • Other degrees may be considered relevant when their programs contain courses in algorithms, computer architecture, programming methodologies and languages, data structures, logic and computation, and advanced mathematics such as calculus or discrete mathematics.
  • Eighteen semester hours of military training or coursework in networking, computer science, or cyber topics is equivalent to an Associate's degree for Levels 1 through 4.
  • Relevant military training, including the Joint Cyber Analysis Course, Undergraduate Cyber Training, Network Warfare Bridge Course, Intermediate Network Warfare Training, or Cyber Defense Operations, may count toward the relevant experience requirement when not credited toward education requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Use information from intrusion detection systems, firewalls, network traffic logs, and host system logs to identify potential vulnerabilities, respond to cyber events, and defend against potential events.
  • Help develop mitigations to strengthen network defenses and protect network infrastructure devices or systems from attacks.
  • Support data transport through wired networks, wireless transport including Wi-Fi and cellular, collaborative platforms such as video teleconferencing, and the associated hardware and software.
  • Develop expertise in networking protocols and architectures, cloud security, Internet of Things protocols, and advanced network security.
  • Work with government, military, and contractor personnel to develop shared understandings of intelligence needs, mission relevance, and areas of expertise.
  • Form hypotheses, assess and select analysis techniques, then query, merge, enrich, evaluate, and pivot within data to attain and share insights.
