Requirements
  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a School of Social Work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education is required.
  • At least 2 years of full-time individual and group clinical social work experience within the last 3 years in a mental health setting is required.
  • The candidate must independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • The candidate must independently provide counseling and psychotherapy services to individuals, groups, and families.
  • The candidate must provide consultation to staff regarding patients' psychosocial needs and their effects on health care and treatment compliance.
  • The candidate must evaluate their own practice through professional peer review case conferences or other organized means.
  • The candidate must use computer software applications for drafting documents, data management, and tracking, especially Department of Defense programs.
  • The candidate must understand medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, treatment procedures, common medications and their effects or side effects, and medical terminology.
  • The candidate must implement treatment modalities for individuals, families, and groups experiencing psychiatric, medical, and social problems.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of professional standards and ethics for clinical social work services.
  • A current, full, active, and unrestricted Licensed Clinical Social Worker license from any state is required.
  • The candidate must maintain a current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification; certification may be obtained before the start date.
  • The candidate must be able to pass a government background check or security clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate appropriate referrals to community and government agencies.
  • Assess patients' and family members' psychosocial functioning and needs, formulate and implement treatment plans, and identify problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills, and needed assistance in collaboration with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to individuals from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Apply knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, treatment procedures, acute, chronic, and traumatic illnesses or injuries, medications and side effects, and medical terminology.
  • Implement treatment modalities for individuals, families, and groups experiencing psychiatric, medical, and social problems to achieve treatment goals.
  • Provide counseling and psychotherapy to individuals, groups, couples, and families within the bounds of the license or certification.
  • Provide consultation to staff regarding patients' psychosocial needs and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and treatment compliance.
  • Participate in professional peer-review case conferences, research studies, and other organizations required at the military treatment facility.
  • Apply social work procedures and techniques to evaluate and treat psychological and psychiatric disorders, including individual, family, group, and couples therapy.
  • Maintain accurate and current outpatient medical records and produce evaluation or treatment reports as required.
  • Consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, military commanders, and school districts as required.
  • Attend meetings, professional staff conferences, quality-improvement meetings, command staff meetings, and primary-care staff meetings during normal duty hours.
  • Participate in military-specific training and evaluations, including training related to security clearances, suicidal behavior, pre- and post-deployment screening, post-traumatic stress disorder, and combat stress.
  • Apply interviewing, behavioral assessment, cognitive-behavioral, and other empirically supported procedures in the primary-care setting.
  • Evaluate diagnostic impressions and functional status focused on the presenting problem.
  • Formulate behavioral-health interventions appropriate to primary care and assist with treatment-plan implementation.
  • Provide timely feedback to Primary Care Managers regarding evaluation findings and recommendations.
  • Provide brief follow-up and relapse-prevention strategies, and develop, teach, or oversee classes promoting psychological and physical health education and skills.
  • Provide consultation for patients requiring ongoing monitoring and follow-up.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with active-duty service members and/or veterans is preferred.
  • Experience or documented training or certification in Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be considered when the required mental-health experience is absent.
