AI accelerator cards reshape DNA sequencing workflows.

AI accelerator cards reshape DNA sequencing workflows. The global market for AI DNA sequencer base-calling accelerator cards is expanding as genomics workflows require faster, more accurate nucleotide identification. These specialized compute modules offload signal processing and deep-learning inference from host CPUs, reducing data-transfer bottlenecks and enabling on-instrument analytics that once depended on large data-center environments. Growth is tied to rising sequencing demand, with sequencing expenditures projected to surpass US$ 30 billion annually. Long-read and single-cell applications are increasing the need for flexible AI-optimized compute, while clinical diagnostics, research and development, and personalized medicine are key application areas. On-premise integration, cloud-connected systems, and hybrid edge deployments are shaping adoption models. NVIDIA, Intel, Illumina, and Thermo Fisher Scientific lead the competitive field through GPU, ASIC, FPGA, and platform-specific approaches. Illumina has introduced the NovaBase AI card, while Thermo Fisher Scientific offers the Ion Torrent Accelerate Card. AMD, Xilinx, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Cisco, Qualcomm, IBM, Pacific Biosciences, Oxford Nanopore Technologies, Roche Sequencing Solutions, BGI Genomics, and QIAGEN are pursuing specialized roles across the ecosystem. Europe is positioned as a highly advanced market due to strong research networks, privacy regulation, and sustainability priorities. North America benefits from federal research funding and biotech activity, while Asia-Pacific shows strong potential through expanding genomics infrastructure in China, Japan, South Korea, and India.

Nuclera appoints Carl Raimond as Chief Executive Officer.

Nuclera appoints Carl Raimond as Chief Executive Officer. * Former Olink Proteomics President brings extensive life-science tools leadership experience, having helped lead Olink through its $3.1 billion acquisition by Thermo Fisher Scientific * Co-founder and former CEO Dr Michael Chen transitions to Chief Scientific and Business Officer Cambridge, UK, and Boston, MA, USA, 22 September 2026: Nuclera, the biotechnology company enabling access to innovative protein technologies, today announced the appointment of Carl Raimond as Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Dr Michael Chen, Nuclera's co-founder and former CEO, transitions to the role of Chief Scientific and Business Officer, continuing to provide scientific leadership while supporting market development and strategic partnerships. The leadership transition marks the next phase in Nuclera's evolution as the Company builds on more than a decade of expertise in cell-free protein synthesis, digital microfluidics and protein production. The combination of Carl's experience scaling life-science businesses with Michael's scientific leadership and deep understanding of Nuclera's technology and markets will support the Company as it expands adoption of its platform across priority life-science workflows. Nuclera is applying its cell-free protein synthesis and digital microfluidics capabilities to accelerate the speed of protein science, with current focus areas including full-length IgG antibody screening, challenging membrane protein synthesis, and soluble protein expression. In May 2026, the Company launched antibody service capabilities to support early experimental triage for antibody discovery programs, complementing its eProtein Discovery(TM) system for in-house protein expression and screening. The Company is also extending its antibody strategy beyond centralized service delivery. Nuclera is advancing early partner work toward customer-site antibody screening workflows, designed to bring cell-free expression and binding triage closer to AI-enabled discovery teams and reduce the delay between computational design and experimental evidence. Carl joins Nuclera from Thermo Fisher Scientific, where he served as President of Proteomic Sciences following its acquisition of Olink Proteomics. He previously served as President of Olink Proteomics, helping lead the company through its $3.1 billion acquisition by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2023. An experienced life-sciences executive, Carl has also held senior leadership roles at PerkinElmer, Agilent Technologies and Affymetrix. As Chief Scientific and Business Officer, Michael will focus on scientific strategy, market development and strategic partnerships, working closely with Carl as the Company enters its next phase of growth whilst maintaining continuity in Nuclera's scientific direction. Carl Raimond, CEO at Nuclera, said: "Nuclera has built a differentiated technology platform at the intersection of cell-free protein synthesis, digital microfluidics, and protein discovery.
