As an experienced engineer on our Game Security Engineering team, you will shape the technology that protects our games and have an impact across the gaming industry! You will work with all games and software platforms produced by Blizzard.
You’ll be exposed to a mind-boggling array of technologies – not only client and server security technologies, but obfuscation, machine learning, compilers, operating systems, and more. This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Albany, NY or Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.
Responsibilities:
• Expand and advance game security coverage into new territory through C++development for PC, Mac, mobile , and console platforms – protecting ALL Blizzard games.
• Design, implement, test, and maintain tools and automation that serve as the backbone for our global presence – automating cheat analysis, detection, and data capture.
• Work closely with game teams to understand security risks, integrate our tools, and design creative solutions that improve defenses without compromis ing performance.
• Work with security analysts to evaluate and explain cheating behavior and characterize game abuse techniques.
• Leverage your expertise to design and develop next-generation client and server game security solutions and develop technological roadmaps to compel management to invest in your vision and strategy.
• Help set the direction of the Game Security Engineering Team through balancing internal team interests and motivations with management deliverables and timelines.
• Identifies areas for the team to improve both mastery and delivery of capabilities and tasks.
• Execute primarily (~75%) hands-on with the Team implementing and evaluating GSE capabilities and ~25% coordinating development cycles and long-term releases.
Requirements:
• 10+ years of software development experience, including shipping and maintaining large-scale live-service products across platforms featuring diverse hardware configurations.
• 4+ years’ experience as a technical team leader for small technical engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of AMD64, Intel x86-64, and/or ARM64 hardware instructions and features usable for execution validation purposes.
• Self-motivated and passionate by delivering game security software improvements in a timely manner.
• Great problem solving and debugging ability.
• Strong ability to communicate with technical and non-technical personnel, including engineers, analysts, and producers.
• Advanced C++, C, and/or 64-bit assembly programming skills.
• A great teammate and mentor to those you work with.
Pluses:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Familiarity with Jenkins, Docker, and build systems.
• Interest in how compilers work, LLVM, and code transformations.
• Reverse engineering skills, assembly programming, or understanding of low-level machine architecture.
• Experience with anti-tamper software, instrumenting or manipulating programs at a binary level, or creating cheats/bots for games.
• Operating system internals knowledge (user and/or kernel).
• Experience in other languages such as Python, Go, or Java.
• Experience in data analysis or data technologies like Big Query and Splunk.
• Familiarity with AI mechanisms and how they could be leveraged to augment and automate Game Security Engineering.
• Experience working within or designing/deploying globally-distributed platforms within GCP, Azure, or AWS.
