Responsibilities
  • Strategically batch orders by creating waves using the warehouse management system functionalities to streamline workflow throughout the DC for all three channels.
  • Understand and effectively use the wave rules and templates to build efficient waves for the operations team.
  • Develop daily volume and workforce planning by shift and in alignment with volume forecasts and financial budget.
  • Monitor UPH goals to ensure daily SLA’s are being met and advise building leaders of progress.
  • Plan and communicate execution of waves needed for shift setup to include time needed and units per wave.
  • Effectively manage competing priorities by business units (corporate) and departments (facility).
  • Effectively communicate with all business partners (internal – operational directors/managers and business unit liaisons (owners and representatives)) to ensure accuracy (100%) and service metrics are met or exceeded.
  • Through continuous improvement methodology, improve building flow and planning processes.
  • Manage the flow of work in the facility in order to meet/exceed well-defined service level agreements (SLA). Ensure waves are replenished, picking is timely and staffing levels are adjusted to support accomplishment of timely wave completion.
  • Ensure timeliness (starting and closing) of all workflow waves.
  • Manage the complexities and dynamics of flow alternating between Wholesale, Retail and eComm channels, between processing engines (Beumer and Sortrak) and across shifts.
  • Actively participate and lead the building with the flow of work into and out of the facility in order to meet/exceed well defined service level agreements (SLA) on assigned shift.
  • Take an active role in resolving exceptions (any order not properly flowing through normal processing steps) by identifying, understanding root cause and eliminating root causes while maintaining timely processing and meeting/exceeding established service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Develop and teach all direct reports the specific workflow wave rules for flowing work to the distribution floor for processing.
  • Evaluate and drive employee performance through coaching, leadership (lead by example), proper planning, effective communication and providing clear and attainable expectations all while using the company guidelines.
  • Understand and properly manage all necessary expense levers in order to improve cost per unit while maintaining high levels of service, quality and morale.
  • Develop associates (non-exempt) through timely feedback, effective communication, proper expectations and training, mentoring/coaching so they can achieve their professional metrics/goals and take on roles of increased responsibility over time.
  • Effectively collaborate and communicate with internal business partners (human resources, customer service, operations, inventory/quality control, business units (wholesale, retail, e-commerce), etc.).
  • Maintain working knowledge of current innovations and best practices in the distribution area and investigate integration of these ideas to improve distribution function.
  • Actively own safety (incidents, near misses, accidents, awareness, etc.) through full participation in all safety related matters (meetings, supporting initiatives, investigations, etc.).

Children's clothing store Carter's to open Wednesday. Carter's will open a new retail location in Owensboro this Wednesday, adding a dedicated children's clothing store to the growing Gateway Commons shopping area. The store will feature approximately 4,000 square feet of baby and children's apparel, gifts, and accessories. The store will carry products from several Carter's house brands, including Carter's, OshKosh B'gosh, Little Planet, and Skip Hop. "We are thrilled to join the vibrant Owensboro community," said Paul Rabaut, Senior Director of Go-to-Market & Retail Marketing. "Carter's classic quality, value, and versatility meet current trends, making kids' dressing both chic and effortless, and we're thrilled to offer a local one-stop shop where parents can turn to as their families grow." Savannah Helm, the store's manager, said the goal is to create a welcoming and comfortable shopping experience for families from the moment they walk through the door. "Our biggest goal is to make sure people come in and leave confident and comfortable with their shopping experience," Helm said. "We want to acknowledge them as soon as they walk in the door. We want to make that connection. We want to thank them for shopping with us. We want them to feel like this is a friendly and welcome environment to come back to." Carter's to lay off 300, close more stores as tariffs decimate profits. The children's apparel retailer, already chasing profitability before new import duties, will close 150 locations in North America over the next three years. Dive brief: * Carter's, which runs its namesake and OshKosh B'gosh brands, will lay off about 300 corporate employees, or 15% of that workforce, by the end of the year, the company said Monday. This is expected to garner annualized savings of about $35 million, starting next year. * The children's apparel retailer also plans to close about 150 North American stores over the next three years - 50 more than previously planned. Carter's runs more than 1,000 locations in the region. * The announcements came as Carter's reported Q3 profit declines largely due to tariffs. Net income plunged 80% year on year to $11.6 million, and operating income tumbled over 60% to $29 million. Dive insight: Carter's, in the midst of a turnaround under a new chief executive officer, this year was already focused on boosting profitability and returning to growth. "Now almost seven months into my role as Carter's CEO, our business transformation has accelerated as core tenets of new strategies take hold," Douglas Palladini told analysts Monday. "Consumer response to new products and stories is strong, and engagement levels are rising as a result, most notably among young Gen Z families with whom we must win." Tariffs have thrown a wrench into those efforts, though. The company in April pulled its guidance for the year after Q2 profits plummeted nearly 60%, also largely due to new import duties on its merchandise. In Q3, net sales were relatively flat to last year, reaching about $758 million. U.S. retail rose 2.6%, with comps up 2%, and international rose 4.9%, per Monday's press release. U.S. wholesale fell 5.1%. The bottom line was a bleak story as tariffs cut deep. In addition to the major hit to profits, operating margin contracted to 3.8% from 10.2% a year ago, "reflecting higher tariff costs, investments in product make, lower unit volume, and investments in new stores, partially offset by higher pricing," the company said Monday. Gross margin contracted by 180 basis points to 45.1%, with tariffs taking a $20 million bite, according to Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer Richard Westenberger. Tariffs also hurt wholesale profitability, he said. Tariffs aren't Carter's only problem, though. Sales on Amazon have declined after the e-commerce giant - which since 2017 treated Carter's "Simple Joys" brand as its own private label - made changes to its sales approach, Westenberger said. Department store sales also declined in the period, he said. It was a tough quarter, yet executives "exuded confidence," and said they expect growth in sales and earnings next year, Wells Fargo analysts led by Ike Boruchow said in a Monday client note. "Considering top line is not growing, combined with the fact that wholesale visibility has become cloudier while store closures are set to accelerate, it's hard for us to see where the confidence comes from," Boruchow said. "On the margin front, there's more tariff pressure coming than cost saves announced."
