Requirements
  • At least 8 years of experience in power systems, distribution planning, or distributed energy resource interconnection engineering.
  • Demonstrated success reviewing or challenging utility interconnection studies, such as CESIR or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • A track record of creating design standards, templates, or engineering processes.
  • Experience negotiating technical scope with a utility.
  • Ability to operate as the most senior technical voice in a fast-moving team.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Deep working knowledge of distributed energy resource interconnection studies and screens, including New York SIR and CESIR or equivalent, hosting capacity, and IEEE 1547.
  • Working awareness of UL 1741 and UL 9540 listings and NEC 705/706.
Responsibilities
  • Own the design templates, product narrative, and technical directives inside the Origination Engineering process documents.
  • Optimize the standard design so every project leaving origination is optimized for cost and footprint.
  • Review and stamp drawing packages efficiently.
  • Derive the interconnection path for each new investment strategy, including a validation plan, scope assessment, optimal design, and execution process.
  • Qualify new technologies and original equipment manufacturers, including battery platforms and electric vehicle charging, for compatibility with the process.
  • Lead escalated technical negotiations with utility engineering on substation upgrades, cost deduplication, and cost sharing.
  • Mentor the Staff Electrical Engineer and Designer through structured technical review.
  • Absorb changes in utility specifications and deliver process updates within days.
  • Design validation plans for new investment strategies, test assumptions, and determine the optimal interconnection approach.
  • Lead scope and policy discussions with utility engineering.
  • Qualify new technology or equipment for compatibility with the process.
  • Raise the Staff Engineer's and Designer's technical bar through structured review.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in Con Edison territory, including SIR, CESIR, or distribution design standards.
  • Exposure to battery storage projects, including battery energy storage systems, power conversion systems, and switchgear.
  • Experience with power systems modeling tools such as ETAP or PSS/E.
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering or power systems.
