Oracle trucks natural gas to data centers as pipeline delays threaten New Mexico build

Oracle is trucking natural gas directly to its data centres to address power supply challenges. The company is considering this approach to accelerate construction in New Mexico, where a delayed gas pipeline is holding up one of its crucial data centres. The strategy represents an unconventional solution to infrastructure bottlenecks that typically slow data centre deployment. By bypassing traditional pipeline infrastructure, Oracle aims to maintain its build schedule despite local energy supply limitations. The move highlights the growing power demands of modern data centres and the creative approaches technology companies are adopting to secure reliable energy sources for their expanding infrastructure needs.

Oracle stock drops 26% as OpenAI ties create uncertainty despite 30% revenue growth

Oracle reported strong earnings last month, with revenue up 30% and per-share profit rising 55%. The company achieved triple-digit growth in its cloud infrastructure business. Despite this performance, the stock has fallen 26% this year, trading below $150 compared to its 52-week high of over $322. Investor concerns centre on Oracle's high debt load and its close relationship with OpenAI. OpenAI accounts for approximately $300 billion of Oracle's $664 billion backlog, creating uncertainty about future growth given questions about OpenAI's profitability. The stock trades at 23 times trailing earnings and about 18 times estimated future profits, slightly below the S&P 500 average of 20. Analysts suggest this discount isn't sufficient to offset the risks associated with Oracle's OpenAI exposure.
