Responsibilities

  • Complete a comprehensive training roadmap within 120 days of graduation, deepening knowledge of store, district, and regional operations, patient safety and error prevention, quality assurance drug utilization review, and pharmacy professional standards including corresponding responsibility and red-flag detection.
  • Assist the pharmacy team in keeping pharmacy operations running smoothly and prescriptions filled promptly, safely, and accurately while providing caring service.
  • Apply standard operating procedures and best practices as part of the pharmacy team, and demonstrate empathy and genuine care in customer and colleague interactions.
  • Follow company standard operating procedures at each workstation to help pharmacists and technicians manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at production, pick-up, drive-through, and drop-off workstations to fulfill prescriptions safely and accurately.
  • Create positive patient experiences at pick-up, drive-through, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services where appropriate; and solve or escalate patient problems.
  • Offer counseling, answer medical questions, and collect patient medical history when appropriate under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and contact prescribers to clarify prescriptions or facilitate medication changes where state regulations allow.
  • Provide in-the-moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members and share best practices.
  • Complete permitted inventory activities as directed by pharmacy leadership, including putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and waiting-bin inventories.
  • Seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge to better assist patients, and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team environment.
  • Remain flexible to scheduling and business needs and travel voluntarily to stores in the market for shifts as needed.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS policies and procedures, including requirements for patient safety, controlled-substance dispensing and recordkeeping, and patient privacy and security.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services, such as immunizations, point-of-care testing, and staffing offsite clinics, where allowed by law and supported by required training and certification.
  • Where permissible, complete additional licensure and training required by state Board of Pharmacy regulations to obtain Technician Immunizer status and support vaccine preparation and administration.
  • Educate patients about vaccines and answer questions to obtain informed consent; monitor for and respond to adverse reactions; report adverse-reaction events as required; and review, collect, track, and document applicable patient information.

Desired Qualifications

  • Have 1 or more years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer-service setting.
  • Be able to become immunization certified and, once state regulations are met, strive to provide patient immunizations as an essential pharmacist function.
