- Registered Nurse license valid in any state.
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record.
- Experience with CDE ONE and Solventum.
- At least five years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist in an acute setting.
- Clinical Documentation Improvement subject matter expertise for all payors and all diagnosis-related group categories, including MS-DRG, APR-DRG, AP-DRG, Elixhauser, and risk variables.
- Knowledge or experience with PSI, HAC, HCC risk-adjustment coding, and the Vizient Calculator.
- CCDS or CDIP certification.
- Coding certification such as CCS or CRC; CIC is an acceptable equivalent.
- Excellent critical-thinking, assessment, evaluation, and teaching skills.
- Self-governance, discipline, and organization.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and typing at 60 words per minute.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of email etiquette.
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate with physicians, nursing staff, caregivers, and Health Information coding staff.
- Working knowledge of all areas of adult medicine.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position, including occasional lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds and prolonged sitting with extensive computer and office-equipment use.
- Ensure the overall quality and completeness of medical record documentation.
- Facilitate modifications to clinical documentation through concurrent interaction with physicians, nursing staff, other patient caregivers, and Health Information coding staff to support appropriate reimbursement and capture clinical severity for the level of service rendered to inpatients.
- Support timely, accurate, and complete documentation of clinical information used to measure and report physician and hospital outcomes.
- Educate members of the patient care team on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain regular contact with personnel throughout and outside the hospital, in person, by telephone, or through correspondence.
- BSN or higher degree.
- Five years of experience as a Clinical Documentation Specialist in an acute setting, preferably in a Level 1 Trauma Center.
