Requirements
- Ability to safely and efficiently operate a motor grader and other heavy equipment.
- Ability to perform daily equipment maintenance, cleaning, lubrication, and safety checks.
- Proficiency with grader controls and operation, including cutting grade, scarifying hardened soils, grading sloped road beds, working with a grade checker to meet tolerances, and finishing base course for paving.
- Ability to understand and observe reference stakes and hand signals when necessary to achieve the specified grade.
- Firm understanding of roadway plans and grades.
- Ability to perform simple math.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Organizational and detail-oriented abilities.
- Ability to comply with operating safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of excavation procedures and techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions and read excavation plans.
- Ability to complete safety awareness training.
- Mechanical and problem-solving skills.
Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-start and daily maintenance, including lubrication, and keep equipment clean and well maintained.
- Notify the supervisor when equipment needs repair.
- Check tire pressure and monitor engine gauges.
- Operate blade controls to scrape and level dirt, mix materials, shape and blade subgrades, balance and roughly shape base course materials, and meet fine-grade specifications.
- Fine-grade horizontal surfaces, shoulders, and slopes, and dress shoulders and slopes.
- Grade plan requirements and set grade standards.
- Demonstrate the ability to lead a crew and delegate work within the work scope.
- Understand production and quantity requirements.
- Utilize an automatic grade control system.
- Schedule work and maintain production.
- Set forth specifications and plans.
- Understand basic survey nomenclature and accurately judge distances and slopes.
- Make decisions based on verifiable standards.
- Conduct routine inspections before operating equipment to identify needed maintenance or repairs.
- Transport materials around job sites.
- Assist in other operations when not performing essential duties and responsibilities.
Desired Qualifications
- Ability to operate a bulldozer and other equipment.
- Experience reading blueprints.
- Bilingual ability in English and Spanish.
