DTCC launched tokenization on Canton with Ondo as a partner. Which coin benefits more? DTCC just launched a tokenization service backed by Fidelity, JPMorgan, and Bank of America, and both Canton Coin and Ondo landed spots in the rollout. But a closer look at how the service actually works reveals that neither coin may... This post may contain links from our sponsors and affiliates, and Flywheel Publishing may receive compensation for actions taken through them. Recently, Canton Coin (CC) and Ondo (ONDO) each secured a partnership with the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), a leading U.S. securities firm. This partnership marks the rollout of DTCC's tokenization service, which went live on October 28, 2026. While DTCC is a major player, the question is which coin will ultimately benefit from this development. As of the latest updates, CC is trading at $0.0956, reflecting a 2.8% decrease over the past 24 hours and a total drop of 27.0% over the last month. Meanwhile, ONDO is priced at $0.4153, showing a modest increase of 0.7% in 24 hours but down 20.1% on a monthly basis. This raises an important question. Which of these coins is better positioned to gain traction from DTCC's tokenization push? DTCC's tokenization service launches with 34 securities on Canton. DTCC's new tokenization service initially includes 34 different securities, featuring selected large-cap stocks from the Russell 1000, various exchange-traded funds, and U.S. Treasuries. The tokenized versions maintain the same ownership rights and protections as their traditional counterparts, allowing investors to easily switch between the two forms and transfer tokens to their own digital wallets. This service operates on two networks, the Canton Network and DTCC's private Besu network. DTCC plans to broaden its blockchain reach in 2027 and has already partnered with 20 notable participants such as Citadel Securities, Fidelity Investments, Edward Jones, Bank of America, and JPMorgan Chase, alongside infrastructure providers like BitGo Bank & Trust, Fireblocks, DRW, Blockdaemon, and Ondo. DTCC's president and chief executive, Frank La Salla, stated that the launch is the culmination of years of development. The groundwork goes back to December 2025, when the SEC issued a no-action letter to DTCC's clearing unit, indicating that SEC staff would not pursue enforcement action if the service was implemented as planned. Input from over 150 firms helped shape the final design, with limited production trades conducted with more than 30 firms as early as July 2026. Lawmakers also moved on broader digital-asset rules around the same stretch, with the Senate's Crypto Clarity Act vote in September setting fresh ground rules for how tokens like these get treated. No requirement for either coin in the new service. Interestingly, DTCC did not specify a settlement asset for this launch, meaning there is no obligatory cryptocurrency tied to the service, including CC and ONDO. Instead, banks will receive tokenized securities directly into their digital wallets, and the announcement does not mandate any participant to hold, buy, or use either coin. Furthermore, DTCC runs a similar tokenization service on its private Besu network, which does not have a public token. This means that as DTCC expands in 2027, it could narrow Canton's current advantage before either coin establishes strong demand. Ondo's link to the new service appears to be the weaker of the two. Ondo describes its token, ONDO, as a governance token for both the Ondo DAO and Flux Finance, possessing a fixed supply of 10 billion tokens with no entitlement to fees generated from Ondo's products. (Sponsor) Given that Ondo already lists tokenized U.S. stocks on Robinhood Markets' Robinhood Chain, with 15 tokenized stocks and funds available for 24/7 trading through Uniswap, the new DTCC service could introduce competition for Ondo's existing offerings unless it evolves to distribute DTCC's tokens. Canton Coin's fee structure offers a small advantage. Canton Coin is uniquely integrated into the network's fee system. Validators, the computers that process and confirm transactions, charge fees priced in U.S. dollars, but they pay in CC, burning the coins and removing them from circulation. In return, validators, Super Validators, and application providers mint new CC as rewards, creating a "burn-mint equilibrium" that keeps burned and newly minted coins in balance over time. However, this system has its limitations. Each validator receives a free traffic allowance before fees apply, and paid traffic costs are based on message size rather than transaction value, so a single large transaction could burn the same amount of CC as a much smaller one. Additionally, third parties can manage the burn process for validators, so a bank could use dollars to cover network traffic costs without ever handling CC directly. Ultimately, a token's price movement depends on monetary flows rather than partnership announcements alone. CC is trading 50.7% below its all-time high of $0.1942 in February 2026, reflecting a 37.4% year-to-date decline. ONDO, on the other hand, trades 80.6% below its December 2024 peak of $2.14, despite a 15.5% gain so far this year. Which coin will benefit more from DTCC's launch? In conclusion, Canton Coin has a slight edge in terms of potential benefits from the DTCC launch. Its direct connection to the Canton Network's fee structure positions it slightly better than Ondo, as the latter seems to have a less clear benefit from its association with DTCC's tokenization service. The bigger winners are the companies, not the coins. Digital Asset gains the largest reference customer in U.S. post-trade, and Ondo Finance gains a seat beside Wall Street's largest custodians. For CC, the edge becomes demand only if banks burn more coins than validators mint; for ONDO, the clearer path is through its own DAO voting to tie the token to Ondo's revenue. Wall Street backbone DTCC brings $30 trillion securities closer to blockchain with major banks. DTCC's tokenization service went live on Canton Network and private chain Besu, with JPMorgan, Citi and Morgan Stanley among 20 firms signed up. Updated Oct 28, 2026, 10:55 a.m. EDT Published Oct 28, 2026, 9:14 a.m. EDT * DTCC introduced its tokenization service on Canton Network and its private Besu blockchain, bringing U.S. stocks, ETFs and Treasuries onto blockchain infrastructure. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC), the giant at the heart of U.S. securities markets, went live with its tokenization service Wednesday, taking a step toward bringing stocks, bonds and funds onto blockchain infrastructure. The service is available on the Canton Network CC$0.09930 and DTCC's private Besu blockchain, initially supporting select large-cap stocks from the Russell 1000 index, exchange-traded funds (ETF) and U.S. Treasury bills, notes and bonds. DTCC's product website says 34 securities are eligible at launch, which represent approximately $30 trillion market value, a DTCC spokesperson told CoinDesk. The debut is a significant step for Wall Street's tokenization push because DTCC sits at the center of how U.S. securities markets work. Through its subsidiaries, the firm handles clearing, settlement and custody for much of the country's stock and bond trading, with more than $114 trillion in securities held at its depository. The company's road map includes adding Stellar XLM$0.1714 and stablecoin issuer Circle Internet's Arc blockchain next year, along with broader corporate-action support and tools for settling transactions with digital cash. The tokens are backed one-for-one by securities held at DTCC subsidiary Depository Trust Company (DTC), and can move between registered wallets around the clock. CoinDesk Live at Stellar Meridian 2026 Day 1 Bringing blockchain technology into the system could make tokenized assets part of mainstream market infrastructure rather than a separate market operating alongside it. Tokenization promises to make financial assets easier to transfer, settle and use as collateral. While banks and asset managers have spent years experimenting with blockchain-based securities, connecting those assets to the systems that already underpin trillions of dollars in transactions could help bring the technology into everyday market operations. Analysts at Citi projected tokenized securities will become a $5.5 trillion market by 2030 as more financial institutions adopt blockchain technology. Bringing traditional securities onchain. "Today marks the culmination of years of work to bring tokenized securities into a regulated framework supported by trusted market infrastructure," said Frank La Salla, DTCC's president and CEO. "By extending DTC's resiliency, governance and operational standards into digital markets, we are establishing the foundation for responsible institutional adoption at scale." Twenty participants have signed agreements to access the service, including Bank of America, Barclays, Citi, Fidelity Investments, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley, Citadel Securities, State Street and UBS. DTCC said more firms will join over time. Eligible firms can convert securities into tokens during business hours, with DTCC targeting processing times of 15 minutes or less. Once tokenized, the assets can move between registered blockchain wallets around the clock, subject to compliance restrictions. The service keeps official ownership records with DTC even as tokens move between registered wallets. That structure sets the approach apart from synthetic stock tokens that track share prices without granting ownership of the underlying securities. DTCC's tokens represent securities already held in custody, preserving their existing rights. The rollout follows a demonstration earlier this year and plans announced in May. Wall Street's tokenization push. In addition to adding Stellar and Arc in 2027, DTCC plans to add tools for settling transactions with digital cash and using tokenized securities as collateral. The service builds on a December no-action letter by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which allowed DTCC to tokenize a defined set of securities. Other market operators are moving in the same direction. Nasdaq and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) are developing tokenized securities trading infrastructure, while NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) is set to operate a blockchain-based trading venue under the SEC's innovation exemption with crypto exchange OKX. Related Assets Tokenized equities are coming with or without issuers. Issuer-sponsored models make the token the share itself, preserving control and full rights. Europe's move to T+1 will be a catalyst for post-trade transformation, DTCC and ValueExchange research finds. The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, the premier post-trade market infrastructure for the global financial services industry, in collaboration with the ValueExchange, has announced the publication of "Post-Trade Transformation in Europe: Why connected data flows are the key to settlement efficiency," a new research report examining the operational challenges facing Europe's post-trade ecosystem and the opportunities for transformation as the industry prepares for the transition to T+1 settlement in October 2027. Track Investments The report finds that, while fragmented data and workflows continue to create inefficiencies across the trade lifecycle, the move to T+1 presents a unique opportunity to modernise post-trade processing through greater automation, standardisation and workflow consolidation. It also outlines how reimagined workflows can help address long-standing inefficiencies by reducing duplication across middle- and back-office functions, creating a single source of agreed trade data, automating the flow of settlement instructions and improving visibility across the post-trade to settlement lifecycle. These capabilities become increasingly important as T+1 compresses settlement timelines by approximately 83%, leaving firms with significantly less time to resolve exceptions and operational issues. Among the report's key findings: * Settlement volumes across Europe increased 15% in 2025, while failed trades increased 21%, underscoring growing operational pressures. * Only 33% of European middle offices have invested in automated SSI storage and exchange, leaving many firms reliant on fragmented data management processes. * Approximately 68% of firms continue to rely on some level of manual trade matching, creating avoidable exceptions and delays. * Only 62% of firms appear prepared for upcoming PSET requirements, highlighting additional industry readiness challenges ahead of T+1. The report also highlights positive steps toward implementation, with the industry already investing in greater automation and standardisation. Established market infrastructure, including automated trade matching and industry reference data utilities, provides a foundation on which firms can build more connected workflows that reduce complexity and improve settlement outcomes. The research concludes that broader adoption of these capabilities, combined with increased industry collaboration, can help create a more efficient and resilient post-trade ecosystem for the future. "The move to T+1 should not be viewed simply as a regulatory milestone, but as a catalyst for industry-wide transformation," said Val Wotton, Managing Director, Global Head of Equities Solutions at DTCC. "The research demonstrates that many of the capabilities needed to improve settlement efficiency already exist today. By reducing fragmentation, improving data consistency and connecting workflows across the trade lifecycle, the industry has an opportunity to create a more scalable, resilient and efficient operating model for the future."
