Lightning McQueen takes over Monza for the Italian Grand Prix. This weekend, the legendary red racer is making a very special appearance at the Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, Italy, bringing the world of Radiator Springs to one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport. And the timing couldn't be better. The 2026 season marks the 20th anniversary of Disney and Pixar's Cars, while September 5 is celebrated as Lightning McQueen Day. Lightning McQueen joins the F1 paddock. Photos and videos shared on social media over the past few days show Lightning McQueen making his way around the Monza circuit and even appearing in the paddock. But this isn't quite the Lightning McQueen Take Five A Day know from the Piston Cup. For his Formula 1 debut, McQueen is wearing his brand-new F1-inspired Track Vehicle decoration, complete with the distinctive orange warning lights on his roof. Disney has officially confirmed that Lightning McQueen is serving as the official support vehicle for the race weekend and will even take part in a special honorary lap. The appearance is part of the expanded Disney x Formula 1 "Fuel the Magic" collaboration, which now includes Disney and Pixar's Cars for the first time. The collaboration has been extended through the 2028 Formula 1 season. A real-life McQueen... and a 1:55 scale version! For Cars collectors, there is another exciting connection to this weekend's Grand Prix. Mattel has released a brand-new Disney and Pixar Cars x Formula 1 3-pack, featuring three 1:55 scale vehicles: * Lightning McQueen, in his new F1 Track Vehicle decoration * Francesco Bernoulli, the Italian Grand Prix's perfect Cars connection * Alex Machino, Francesco's pit crew member The set also includes a stack of tires and a tool cart, giving collectors a little F1 pit-lane atmosphere to go with the cars. Mattel has done a particularly nice job with the timing of this release. The new multipack arrived in stores just as the real Lightning McQueen was heading to Monza, making it possible for fans to recreate the F1 action at home. The set has also recently started appearing at Smyths Toys, where it is now available both in stores and online in several European markets. More Cars x Formula 1 merchandise is coming. The die-cast cars are only part of the story. The new Disney and Pixar's Cars with Formula 1 collection includes a wide range of merchandise, from clothing and accessories to collectibles and other fan items. The collection is being rolled out alongside the expanded Disney x Formula 1 collaboration. And there is plenty more to come. Disney has announced products including plush, pins, apparel, eyewear and other accessories, giving Cars and Formula 1 fans plenty of ways to celebrate the partnership beyond the race track. A perfect place for Lightning McQueen. There probably isn't a better Formula 1 venue for Lightning McQueen's first major appearance than Monza. With its legendary history, passionate Italian fans and unmistakable connection to racing, the Autodromo Nazionale Monza feels like a natural home for the world's most famous fictional race car. For fans who grew up watching Cars, seeing Lightning McQueen driving around a real Formula 1 paddock is quite a surreal sight. And with the 20th anniversary of Cars, the timing makes the whole celebration even more special. From Radiator Springs to the F1 paddock, McQueen has definitely entered a new racing world. Happy Lightning McQueen Day!

Mattel's Ynon Kreiz joins Paley Summit to discuss Global Franchises. The Mattel Chairman and CEO will take the stage with Kevin Mayer for a conversation about Hollywood's evolving franchise business. Mattel Chairman and CEO Ynon Kreiz will join a roster of media, entertainment, technology, and business leaders at the 2026 Paley International Council Summit in New York this fall. The Paley Center for Media will host the summit Oct. 19-21 at The Paley Museum in Midtown Manhattan. This year's program, Global Media in Focus: Power, Platforms, and Perspective, will tackle topics ranging from artificial intelligence and gaming to fandom, consumer behavior, sports, and the changing media landscape. For the toy industry, Kreiz's appearance stands out. On Oct. 20, he will participate in "Global Franchises and the Evolution of Hollywood," a session examining the business of building and extending entertainment properties. Kevin Mayer, Founding Partner at Smash Capital, Executive Chairman at Candle Media, and Candle Media Co-Founder and Co-CEO, will join Kreiz. The conversation arrives as Mattel continues pushing its brands well beyond the toy aisle. Under Kreiz, the company has leaned heavily into an IP-driven strategy spanning film, television, digital experiences, consumer products, and licensing, with properties including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Masters of the Universe, Matchbox, and more feeding a growing entertainment pipeline. The summit will also feature executives from Sony Group, Take-Two Interactive, McDonald's, Mastercard, General Motors, Yahoo, Goldman Sachs, and other global companies. For Mattel, which was named "Manufacturer of the Year" in The Toy Book's 2026 Pulse of Play Awards, Kreiz's place on the agenda puts the company squarely inside a broader industry conversation about what makes a franchise travel and how brands turn audiences into long-term businesses.
