Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited university is required.
  • At least 5 years of work experience in electrical power systems is required.
  • A fundamental understanding of engineering first principles, including the physics of electricity, magnetism, and three-phase power, is required.
  • Familiarity with industrial design standards, codes, and regulations, including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers standards and North American Electric Reliability Corporation regulations, is required.
  • Experience using electrical analysis tools to solve electrical power system problems is required.
  • Experience specifying, designing, and developing design verification test programs is required.
  • The candidate must be able to work closely with engineers of varied backgrounds and experience to deliver comprehensive solutions to multidisciplinary problems.
  • The candidate must be able to work on several technically diverse projects simultaneously in a dynamic engineering environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are required for effective communication with clients and senior management.
  • The candidate must be willing and able to lead and motivate project teams, encourage teamwork, manage change, and make timely and effective decisions.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead electrical power system analysis and design efforts, including coaching and mentoring other engineers through execution of the work.
  • Engage with clients and their engineering, management, maintenance, and quality teams.
  • Perform alternating-current and direct-current electrical power system studies, including load-flow, short-circuit, protective-device coordination, and transient-stability studies.
  • Evaluate alternating-current and direct-current electric power system alternatives and investigate root causes of failures in power system components.
  • Perform evaluations and calculations demonstrating compliance with applicable North American Electric Reliability Corporation, Independent System Operator, and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations.
  • Design, procure, test, and install excitation systems and voltage-regulation systems for synchronous machines.
  • Specify equipment performance requirements and evaluate equipment capabilities against those requirements.
  • Consider electrical performance requirements, mechanical fit-up, interfaces with existing controls, and environmental factors as design constraints.
  • Oversee equipment procurement and design-verification testing.
  • Develop equipment design submittals, including drawings, qualification reports, technical manuals, and design-review evaluations.
  • Oversee equipment installation and commissioning.
