Requirements
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required; security and/or healthcare security experience is preferred.
  • A valid Michigan driver's license is required, and the employee must be insurable through Bronson's insurance carrier.
  • Maintain professional conduct that supports positive hospital and community relations and deliver customer service consistent with Bronson's mission, values, and standards.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintain annual department continuing-education trainings and certificates, along with system computer-based learning modules.
  • Successfully complete required violent-patient-management and de-escalation training.
  • Be able to use and operate a computer, tablet or mobile device, and security surveillance system for significant portions of the shift.
  • Be able to lift bulky or moderately heavy items up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally assist with heavier tasks or equivalent pushing, pulling, or handling.
  • Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
  • Be able to take control during stressful situations and emergencies, recognize problems or potential problems, and take corrective action.
  • Be able to cope calmly with high stress and others' anger, fear, and hostility, and use patient-management techniques to defuse and de-escalate situations involving resistance or workplace violence.
  • Be able to perform work that produces high levels of mental or visual fatigue, such as interactive, repetitive, or small-detail work.
Responsibilities
  • Uphold Bronson policies and procedures and provide professional service to patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Greet patients and visitors and assist them to their destinations.
  • Complete reports and documentation.
  • Enforce no-trespass orders.
  • Interact and problem-solve with other units and staff while assisting in direct patient-care situations that require a security presence.
  • Respond to calls for aid from hospital areas, particularly the Emergency Department; help calm or restrain disturbed patients and escort individuals from hospital premises when necessary.
  • Assist and communicate with staff, patients, visitors, and local law enforcement during codes and situations requiring a high state of readiness.
  • Respond to emergency security situations and emergency codes as necessary.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, thefts, lost property, and safety or security violations; complete incident reports and follow up on incomplete reports.
  • When assigned as charge, coordinate routine operations, direct other personnel's activities, and assume functional charge of the shift.
  • Provide education when asked, such as on access control or fire drills.
  • Assist with parking control and escort employees and visitors to their cars upon request.
  • Provide general assistance with car trouble, such as lockouts or jump starts.
  • Patrol hospital buildings and grounds on scheduled and unscheduled rounds to detect and prevent theft, vandalism, fire, and other threats to hospital security.
  • Perform site-specific duties as needed.
