Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience in heavy civil construction, with a highway and roadway focus.
- Working knowledge of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
- Ability to identify known or potential exposures and recommend corrective actions.
- Computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite programs.
- Strong management, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities
- Develop site-specific safety programs.
- Direct and oversee day-to-day safety activities.
- Establish and conduct jobsite orientation for every new project employee, administer and record participation, and issue identification to employees completing the orientation program.
- Attend initial meetings with project staff and subcontractor representatives to define their roles within the project safety program.
- Establish and conduct regular weekly safety meetings with project staff and maintain logs of toolbox safety meetings held with employees.
- Review each subcontractor's safety program and ensure it meets or exceeds project safety program requirements.
- Conduct regular daily jobsite and work-area inspections.
- Conduct formal weekly jobsite inspections and complete safety checklists documenting safety violations and corrective actions.
- Record, notify, and prepare written reports of violations or unsafe practices involving direct-hire employees or subcontractors for immediate correction.
- Immediately stop work involving any violation or unsafe practice.
- Assist the Project Superintendent in establishing and implementing safety procedures, including evacuation and fire-control procedures.
- Investigate all incidents and generate appropriate reports.
- Establish and maintain all required job-safety records.
- Conduct a monthly overview safety meeting.
- Assist the Claims Manager with claims management.
- Attend project staff meetings to brief staff on project safety issues and company safety matters and stay informed about job progress.
Desired Qualifications
- A 10-hour OSHA certificate.
- A 30-hour OSHA certificate.
- A bachelor's degree.
- A Certified Health and Safety Technician or Certified Safety Professional designation.
