How did US' Duluth Trading offset lower sales to lift Q2 profits?

How did US' Duluth Trading offset lower sales to lift Q2 profits? 04 Sep '26 Insights. * Duluth Trading Company reported a sharp rise in Q2 FY26 profitability, with net income reaching $18.4 million despite a 7.8 per cent decline in sales to $121.4 million. * Tariff refunds, gross-margin expansion and inventory discipline supported results, while adjusted EBITDA more than doubled to $27 million. * The company also raised FY26 adjusted EBITDA guidance to $38-42 million. American workwear and outdoor apparel specialist Duluth Trading Company has reported a sharp improvement in profitability for the second quarter of fiscal 2026 (Q2 FY26), as gross margin expansion and disciplined inventory management offset lower sales. The company also strengthened its balance sheet, ending the quarter with robust liquidity and no outstanding debt on its asset-based lending facility. For the three months ended August 2, 2026, net income climbed to $18.4 million, compared to $1.3 million in the prior-year period. This improvement included the benefit of $16.3 million in tariff refunds. Net sales declined by 7.8 per cent year on year to $121.4 million, reflecting softer direct-to-consumer demand and lower retail store traffic. Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) more than doubled to $27.0 million from $12.0 million a year earlier, also reflecting the impact of tariff refunds. Diluted earnings per share (EPS) reached $0.50, up from $0.04 in the second quarter of 2025. Inventory was reduced by $22.9 million, or 15.5 per cent, year on year, while cash and cash equivalents stood at $26.8 million and net liquidity at approximately $96 million, according to the company's quarterly results. "Our second quarter performance demonstrates strong execution of our operational priorities, inventory discipline, and successful promotional reset. By combining gross margin expansion with effective inventory management, we have delivered another quarter of improved profitability and free cash flow. Our core products continue to lead the way with customers responding favourably to our high-quality, solution-based workwear," said Stephanie Pugliese, president and CEO, Duluth Trading Company. Gross margin expands despite sales decline Gross margin expanded by 1,810 basis points to 72.8 per cent, primarily due to tariff refunds. Excluding these refunds, gross margin was 59.6 per cent, an increase of 490 basis points from the prior year, driven by higher average unit retail prices and improved product costs through direct-to-factory sourcing initiatives. Selling, general and administrative expenses rose slightly to $69.5 million, representing 57.3 per cent of net sales, up from 52.2 per cent a year earlier, as increased advertising and shipping costs were partially offset by lower overheads and fulfilment efficiencies. Direct-to-consumer net sales fell 11.5 per cent to $70.1 million, reflecting reduced promotional activity and lower web traffic, while retail store net sales decreased 2.4 per cent to $51.3 million, impacted by softer store traffic but supported by higher average order values and new store openings in the prior year. The company ended Q2 FY26 with $26.8 million in cash and cash equivalents, $85.7 million in net working capital, and no outstanding debt on its $70 million asset-based lending facility, resulting in net liquidity of approximately $96 million. Inventory levels were tightly managed, down 15.5 per cent year on year to $125.2 million. FY26 outlook raised on EBITDA guidance Duluth Trading Company affirmed its full-year fiscal 2026 net sales guidance of $540 million to $560 million, while raising its adjusted EBITDA outlook to a range of $38 million to $42 million, up from the previous range of $28 million to $32 million. Capital expenditures for the year are expected to be approximately $12 million, including software hosting implementation costs. The company said it remains focused on advancing its 'Build to Last' strategy, maximising channel productivity, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. Fibre2Fashion News Desk (CG)

DLTH stock on watch as Duluth Trading pushes seasonal growth.

DLTH stock on watch as Duluth Trading pushes seasonal growth. JACK KELLOGG - UPDATED SEP. 3, 2026, 9:19 AM ET Duluth Holdings Inc. stocks have been trading up by 12.71 percent following upbeat consumer-demand outlook in recent reports. Key takeaways. * Duluth Trading is launching and promoting expanded hot-weather lines such as Armachillo, Dry on the Fly, and UPF apparel, positioned for record heat and more extreme summer conditions. * The company is marketing its underwear and first-layer collections into the fall back-to-school and back-to-work season, aiming to ride record seasonal apparel spending with comfort and performance messaging. * Duluth Holdings will release Q2 2026 results and host a conference call and webcast on 2026/09/03, giving traders a near-term catalyst to track. * Recent Form 4 filings show insider changes in Duluth Holdings ownership, but with no detail on size or direction, traders have limited signal from the moves. Live Update At 09:18:35 EDT: On Thursday, September 03, 2026 Duluth Holdings Inc. stock [NASDAQ: DLTH] is trending up by 12.71%! Discover the key drivers behind this movement as well as its expert analysis in the detailed breakdown below. Quick financial overview. DLTH is trading like a small-cap turnaround story that has not fully convinced the market yet. The daily chart shows DLTH sliding from around $4.13 on 2026/08/10 to $3.62 by 2026/09/02. That's a steady grind lower, not a panic flush, which tells traders supply is slowly winning over demand. Intraday, DLTH still shows bursts of action. In premarket, it swung between roughly $3.87 and $4.47 before settling near $4.08. That wide range signals DLTH can move fast when volume wakes up, which is exactly what active traders look for around catalysts. Fundamentals paint a mixed picture. Duluth Holdings generated about $565.2M in revenue over the trailing period, but margins are under pressure. The company posted a recent quarterly net loss of roughly $10.0M, with operating income in the red and free cash flow running negative. At the same time, DLTH trades around 0.25 times sales and just under book value at 0.87 times, suggesting the market is already discounting a lot of the pain. For traders, that sets the stage where any proof of a turnaround can trigger sharp re-ratings. Why traders are watching DLTH now. DLTH is lining up a classic "story meets catalyst" setup. On the story side, Duluth Trading is leaning hard into weather and seasonality. The brand's expanded hot-weather lines - Armachillo, Dry on the Fly, and UPF apparel - are being pushed as answers to record heat and more extreme summers. That matters because heat is not a one-day news blip. If hotter summers become the norm, demand for breathable, sun-protective workwear and travel gear gives Duluth Holdings a clear niche. At the same time, Duluth Trading is not ignoring its bread-and-butter categories. The company is aggressively promoting underwear and first-layer collections into the fall back-to-school and back-to-work cycle. That is smart. Basics and first layers are repeat-purchase items, and pairing comfort with performance fabrics and strong reviews is how DLTH fights for wallet share in a crowded apparel field. For traders, the key is timing. Duluth Holdings has flagged 2026/09/03 as the date for its Q2 2026 earnings release and conference call. That call is where the market will judge whether these hot-weather and core-basics pushes are just marketing noise or actually moving the revenue needle. If DLTH shows traction in warm-weather apparel and fall basics, the low price-to-sales and price-to-book multiples give room for a squeeze. Insider Form 4 filings add a side note. There have been changes in beneficial ownership at Duluth Holdings, but without detail on direction or size, the signal is weak. Routine filings alone are not a trading edge. Chart, volume, and the 2026/09/03 numbers matter more. Conclusion. DLTH sits at an interesting crossroads. The stock has drifted lower over the past few weeks, but Duluth Trading management is not standing still. The push into hot-weather gear tied to record heat, combined with a heavy marketing focus on underwear and first layers for the fall spending wave, gives Duluth Holdings multiple shots on goal from a merchandising standpoint. Traders should view the upcoming Q2 2026 earnings release and call on 2026/09/03 as the real test. If Duluth Trading can link its product campaigns to better traffic, revenue stabilization, or margin progress, DLTH's discounted valuation can quickly become a tailwind instead of a warning sign. If the numbers disappoint, the recent downtrend on the chart may simply extend. As always, this is about disciplined trading, not hope. DLTH is a small name that can move fast when volume hits, so risk management matters. As millionaire penny stock trader and teacher Tim Sykes, says, "You must adapt to the market; the market will not adapt to you.". Or as Tim Sykes loves to remind traders, "Cut losses quickly - that's rule number one, two, and three."
