Requirements
  • Experience providing targeted and individualized instruction to multilingual learners, including students with limited English language proficiency.
  • At least 2 years of English as a new language teaching experience is strongly preferred.
  • New York State Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages certification or Special Education certification is preferred.
  • A Master’s Degree in Education is preferred.
  • Ability to cultivate a positive classroom culture through relationship-building and classroom management strategies that promote safety and inclusion.
  • Ability to clearly and precisely share new content and lead students through inquiry-based class discussions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work in underserved and under-resourced communities and apply culturally responsive pedagogy and relationship-building.
  • Ability to analyze student achievement and language proficiency data and use it to make instructional decisions.
  • Ability to maintain accurate student data and progress-monitoring records.
  • Ability to stand for at least 5 hours per day, climb stairs multiple times daily, and move quickly in an emergency.
Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted small-group instruction and in-class accommodations to help students achieve learning and language goals.
  • Use instructional, classroom-management, and assessment strategies to meet students’ differing language needs.
  • Analyze student achievement and language-proficiency data to drive strategic instructional decisions and differentiated support.
  • Maintain multilingual learner data, including snapshots, rosters, and progress-monitoring data.
  • Design and/or execute school-based professional development to improve educators’ academic and language-development support for multilingual learners.
  • Coordinate parent communication as needed.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams across content areas to modify and differentiate instruction and implement classroom strategies.
  • Execute the multilingual learner identification process in accordance with state guidelines and identify language goals for students determined to have limited English proficiency.
  • Manage testing administration for multilingual learner identification and language proficiency, including HLIS forms, NYSITELL, NYSESLAT, and WIDA.
  • Attend and actively participate in professional learning communities, grade-level meetings, and professional-development sessions.
  • Foster an environment built on restorative practices, including helping students build relationships and repair harm to the community.
  • Assist with non-instructional student supervision, including arrival and dismissal, hallway monitoring, lunch and playground duty, and extracurricular activities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed.
