Colorectal cancer screening rates are also lower, with 66% of eligible Texans screened compared to 69% nationwide. These gaps highlight the importance of the American Cancer Society's work to increase awareness, connect people to convenient screening services, and reduce disparities in access to preventive care. Weichert's 26th Annual Charity Outing raises $155,000 for the American Cancer Society. The company's cumulative donation exceeds $2.4 million to support breast cancer research since 2001. The Weichert Family of Companies has announced the company has raised $155,000 during its 26th Annual Charity Outing to benefit the American Cancer Society and breast cancer research. Proceeds from the event bring the grand total that Weichert has raised for the cause to $2.462 million since the annual fundraiser began in 2001. "For 26 years, Weichert friends, family, colleagues and sponsors have been working together to raise funds for the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research," said charity committee chairperson Joe McDonald, president of Residential Sales and Real Estate Services for Weichert, Realtors. "We are thankful to the many volunteers, sponsors and individuals who donate their time, effort and funds to make this a successful event each year. It was a great day for golfing, as well as raising money and awareness to support a very important cause." According to a release, this year's Charity Outing, held at Fiddler's Elbow Country Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, hosted more than 200 golfers, 17 paint-and-sip participants and a dozen pickleball players. "We were thrilled to have more players hit the pickleball court this year," McDonald said. "It was also nice to see several participants enjoying the Member for a Day package, which provided access to many of Fiddler's wonderful facilities and services." Cloverleaf Bio, an RNA therapeutics company developing engineered transfer RNA-based cancer treatments, has closed a $33 million seed financing round. The oversubscribed round was led by 4BIO Capital, with participation from AbbVie Ventures, Eli Lilly and Company, Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund, Draper Associates, Mission BioCapital, and American Cancer Society BrightEdge. The New Haven-based company will use the funds to advance two lead programmes: an inhibitory tRNA asset targeting hepatocellular carcinoma through early clinical testing and an antibody-tRNA conjugate asset for colorectal cancer through preclinical development. Cloverleaf's platform targets RNA-modifying enzymes that cancer cells depend on during proliferation. In preclinical studies, the lead compound CLB-001 demonstrated greater potency and selectivity for cancerous cells whilst showing no signs of systemic toxicity. The company is a Yale University spinout, founded by Austin Draycott, Cole Lewis, and Wendy Gilbert.

UChicago Medicine, American Cancer Society partner to build no-cost lodging for traveling cancer patients. Newswise - Patients traveling long distances to the University of Chicago Medicine for cancer treatment will soon have a new place to stay close to its anchor hospital on the city's South Side, as part of a partnership with the American Cancer Society. The American Cancer Society plans to build Hope Lodge Chicago, a facility at 5700 S. Stony Island Ave., that will provide free accommodations for cancer patients and their caregivers who travel to Chicago for treatment. The project is being developed through a partnership between the American Cancer Society and community partners, with UChicago Medicine serving as the primary partner. The University of Chicago will provide the property through a long-term lease, and the medical center will contribute funds toward construction. Hope Lodge Chicago will be located about one mile from UChicago Medicine's new AbbVie Foundation Cancer Pavilion, a 575,000-square-foot cancer facility scheduled to open in April 2027. Together, the projects will expand not only the physical capacity of UChicago Medicine's cancer program but also the support available to patients who travel from across Illinois, the Midwest and beyond to receive specialized cancer care. Located on UChicago Medicine's Hyde Park campus, the pavilion will bring inpatient and outpatient cancer care, clinical trials, advanced imaging and supportive services together under one roof.
