Tencent Holdings released its Hy4 AI model with 770 billion parameters, but activates only 49 billion per token — just 6.4% of the full network. The model powers Tencent's CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy products and can process a one-million-token context window. In internal testing with 163 employees across 203 engineering tasks, Hy4 scored 2.99 out of four, narrowly outperforming GLM 5.3 and Kimi K3. Tencent's stock trades at $58.01, roughly 14% below its estimated fair value of $67.28. The company is open sourcing the model, which could expand adoption but also exposes the technology to competitors. Success depends on converting the technical capabilities into revenue and growth.
Tencent Holdings has released a new foundation AI model that it claims outperforms competitors Z.AI and Moonshot AI in internal tests. The Chinese tech giant is positioning itself among the country's leading artificial intelligence players with this launch. The company's announcement highlights the intensifying competition in China's AI sector, where major technology firms are racing to develop and deploy advanced language models. Tencent's move represents its latest effort to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving Chinese AI landscape.
Tencent spotted testing Hy4 model in Yuanbao app as expert-level model. The Chinese tech giant's latest open-source mixture-of-experts model represents a massive leap from its predecessor's 295B parameters 5 hours ago Sponsored: CryptoSlots - Cryptoslots Play now! Tencent has unveiled Hy4 Preview, an open-source Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model. The release marks a significant escalation in China's intensifying AI arms race, where the country's biggest tech companies are racing to build ever-larger foundation models. For context, Tencent's previous Hy3 model clocked in at 295 billion total parameters. Think of parameters as the knobs and dials that a model can tune during training: more parameters generally means a model can learn more nuanced patterns, though how efficiently those parameters are used matters just as much. From Hy3 to Hy4: a rapid evolution. The Hy4 Preview builds on what was already a strong foundation. Tencent's Hy3 model, a 295B total parameter MoE architecture with 21B active parameters and a 256K context window, was open-sourced under the Apache 2.0 license in April 2026 before receiving its formal release in July. Weekly usage of Hy3 rose more than 68-fold after it transitioned from preview to formal release. Hy3 became the engine behind a growing suite of Tencent products, powering features across Yuanbao (Tencent's AI assistant app), CodeBuddy (its coding assistant), and WorkBuddy (its enterprise productivity tool). The model delivered notable improvements in reasoning, coding, and handling complex multi-step tasks. Gray testing and the road to full release. During its Q2 earnings report around August 12-13, 2026, Tencent disclosed plans to launch a larger-parameter Hy4 model imminently, with a focus on enhanced performance and multimodal capabilities. By August 20-21, initial gray testing of the Hy4 model was spotted in the Tencent Yuanbao app, where it was positioned as an "expert-level model." No official specifications, including the exact parameter count and architecture details, have been disclosed. The Hy series is led by Tencent's chief AI scientist Yao Shunyu. Tencent has adopted a dual strategy: developing proprietary models like the Hy series while simultaneously leveraging top open-source alternatives, including models from DeepSeek. Tencent Games Central Tech introduces new AI tools to help with animation, gameplay, and more at Gamescom 2026. The tools are designed to make the development process easier Last Updated on August 27, 2026 Table of contents. Tencent Games is putting a major focus on AI at Gamescom 2026, with its Central Tech division showcasing a collection of new tools designed to help developers across different stages of game development. On top of that, they have also developed something that can help prevent cheating in games. One of the biggest highlights is Motus, an AI system focused on 3D character animation. Instead of handling only one part of the animation process, Motus brings several stages together, including character rigging, skinning, motion generation, motion cleanup, and real-time interaction. Developers can generate movement using text prompts, videos, or keyframes, while the system can also create animations involving multiple characters. Tencent says Motus can analyze a character's structure and quickly build a production-ready skeleton before generating the required skinning data. The system is also designed to clean up AI-generated animation. It can identify problems such as jitter, characters or objects passing through each other, unusual joint movement, and incorrect foot placement. Tencent says Motus can also use text or audio to drive facial expressions and body movement, opening up possibilities for more responsive NPCs and digital characters. Video Muted Latest PC & tech deals. Prices correct as of August 20th, 2026. Motus isn't just experimental technology either. Tencent says its tools have already been used in games including Game for Peace, PUBG MOBILE, Delta Force, Honor of Kings, Roco Kingdom, League of Legends, and Teamfight Tactics. Another interesting project is GIGA, which uses games and virtual environments as training grounds for AI agents. Instead of simply understanding what is happening on screen, these systems are being trained to make decisions, connect language with actions, and react to changing situations in real time. For graphics and presentation, Tencent showcased MagicDawn, which combines rendering technology with AI and cloud computing. One example presented at Gamescom was Roco Kingdom, where the technology helped turn the older browser game into a much larger 64-square-kilometer cross-platform open world while maintaining consistent visual quality. Tencent is also using AI for areas outside game creation. Anti-Cheat Expert focuses on keeping games secure by detecting cheats, protecting game clients, monitoring in-game economic risks, and tracking threats. Finally, WeTest Acorn AI Studio uses AI agents to play games in a way similar to human testers. The system can then look for problems across different genres and platforms, potentially helping developers find bugs and other issues earlier. Porsche 's GEN3 99X Electric is moving from the Formula E track to the virtual streets of Need for Speed Mobile. Starting August 21, players in China will be able to drive the Porsche GEN3 99X Electric in the popular mobile racing game. The move comes after the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship recently launched in another major Chinese mobile game, Game for Peace. Formula E has teamed up with Tencent again, this time bringing Porsche's title-winning GEN3 99X Electric to Need for Speed Mobile. Porsche's GEN3 99X Electric to debut in Need for Speed Mobile The Porsche GEN3 99X Electric has been placed in the prestigious "Hall of Legends - Hybrid & Electric Drive" vehicle class. The car has been given a special driving profile for the high-speed streets of Need for Speed Mobile. It has also been designed to reflect some of the characteristics of Porsche's real-world Formula E factory car. One of its key features is its Agile Drift Tuning. This gives the car more agile rear-tail behaviour during drifts, allowing players to enter tight corners at higher speeds and make sharper turn-ins. The car also comes with High Torque Endurance, which provides a higher base top speed, precise steering response and automatic nitrous accumulation while cornering. Formula E's energy recovery enters the game The Porsche 99X Electric also brings an Energy Recovery System, or ERS, inspired by the technology used by the real car. The system provides a high-torque launch boost for 2.8 seconds from a standstill. During braking, handbrake turns and inertia drifts, the system collects kinetic energy. That process temporarily lowers the car's top speed before the stored power is released within two seconds after a drift, creating a major nitrous boost. Porsche 99X Electric's special features in Hot Pursuit mode The Porsche 99X Electric will also have special abilities in Need for Speed Mobile's Hot Pursuit mode. Players using the car as a Street Racer will get increased backpack capacity, allowing them to carry more tactical supplies during escapes. For players in the Pursuit Team role, the car removes the helicopter cooldown timer while it is being used. This allows continuous aerial surveillance of targets. How players can unlock the Porsche The Porsche GEN3 99X Electric will debut on August 21 through the limited-time "Hall Treasures" in-game event. Players can unlock the car by using Hall Treasure Coupons to draw from the event pool. The coupons can be collected through several limited-time mechanics available through the Events menu under Specials. ID@undefined Caption not available.
