Position Summary:
Metaphore is seeking an innovative, think-outside-the-box Director / Senior Director of Research Informatics & Data Infrastructure. We seek an individual who can help us accelerate the growth and transformation of our research informatics and analytics tooling/pipelines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing and building data solutions that systematically capture, annotate, transform, and store large amounts of experimental data in support of AI, ML algorithm build-out, as well us business intelligence supporting operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will work both independently and as part of a collaborative team to:
- Champion implementation of data strategy to support exponential growth of AI/ML stack backed by empirical data collection at scale
- Develop and execute the roadmap for Research Informatics’ capabilities leveraging high-throughput discovery and computational design
- Lead deployment of data solutions, including product demos and in-house proof of concept development, to support the Data Science team and general lab
- Implement DevOps for Data Science team as well as Automation Engineering to deliver the highest consistency and traceability of data acquisition feeding computational pipelines
- Implement scalable data capture and sharing for manual workflows as well as production-grade workflows inclusive of NGS, flow cytometry, and phenotypic screening, taking advantage of LIMS system and sample management
- Champion workflow orchestration and integrated data capture on robotic systems and general lab systems, inclusive of interface design for metadata capture and user interaction for LIMS-driven workflows
- Introduce scalable solutions for sample management and inventory in support of data collection for millions of molecules
- Support the continued protection, creation, and expansion of the company’s intellectual property
- Present to the company’s Board of Directors, Scientific Advisors, and external stakeholders
Qualifications:
- 12+ years of R&D experience across biotech/tech and academia, including leadership of mid to large-size data engineering teams and demonstrated ability to scale them
- B.S. / M.S. in computer science, computational biology, or a related field
- Expert in cloud computing concepts, such as infrastructure as code, virtualization, and serverless computing
- Experience in software product management and working with user requirements
- Experience collaborating with wet lab scientists and managers
- Experience working in a fast-paced/agile environment
- Diverse skill set that may include cloud architecture, security (VPC, VPN, and IAM), cost analysis, CloudHealth, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and EBS, DevOps: Jenkins, Ansible, Terraform etc. programming languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, C#, Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, scripting languages and deployment tools: Bash, PowerShell, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, pipeline architecture: Apache Airflow, Nextflow
- Lab automation integration utilizing APIs, schedulers, and workflow orchestration tools
- Ability to develop and recruit top engineering talent
- Expert in LIMS system design and management: both internal as well as external solutions eg. Benchling, CORE LIMS
