CloudNC AI-Assisted CAM Software Accelerates CNC Programming.

CloudNC AI-Assisted CAM Software Accelerates CNC Programming. CloudNC's CAM Assist integrates with GibbsCAM software as an AI-enabled add-on, generating machining strategies for 3 and 3+2 axis CNC machines in minutes and providing programmers with step-by-step oversight via the Strategy Editor. CloudNC's CAM Assist solution - which uses AI to generate machining strategies for 3 and 3+2 axis CNC machines - is now available for GibbsCAM users. The software is available as an AI-enabled add-on for GibbsCAM. The integration is designed to enable GibbsCAM users to program tool paths and machine parts more efficiently within their familiar CAM workflow. CAM Assist uses advanced computer science techniques and AI to generate machining strategies in minutes or seconds, depending on complexity - tasks that could otherwise take CNC machine programmers hours or days to complete manually. According to the company, this reduces programming time, a common bottleneck in many factories, and also shortens the time required to estimate the cost of programming new components. That gain is said to enable manufacturers to raise productivity, shorten lead times and estimate for more work more quickly. GibbsCAM users can also access CAM Assist 2.0, which combines AI-powered toolpath generation with step-by-step oversight. The upgrade allows programmers to configure machines, materials and tool assemblies, assess parts before running, review AI suggestions as they are made, and use the Strategy Editor to inspect, adjust and approve machining strategies before they are sent back into GibbsCAM. "GibbsCAM is a powerful fit for machine shops that want a smart, flexible CAM solution that can scale from day-to-day production work to produce complex components," says Theo Saville, chief executive and co-founder at CloudNC. "Bringing CAM Assist to GibbsCAM helps those users go even faster, meaning programmers can spend less time on repetitive toolpath creation, stay firmly in control of the process, and focus more of their expertise on getting high-quality parts out of the door." Thorsten Strauss, president of GibbsCAM, says the integration brings AI technology directly into existing workflows. "This collaboration with CloudNC enables programmers to automate repetitive programming tasks, accelerate part programming, and focus their expertise where it delivers the greatest value - all while maintaining full control of the machining process." * Manufacturing Scheduling System Focuses on the Now Improving on-time delivery can happen by prioritizing what needs to happen first, not what job is due first. Among other capabilities, the Production Flow Manufacturing concept can identify situations in which a job with a later due date is actually more urgent. * Precision Machining Technology Review: March 2025 Production Machining's March 2025 technology showcase includes some of the latest technology from Allied Machine and Engineering, United Grinding, HCLSoftware, Sandvik Coromant and Sunnen Products Co. * Precision Machining Technology Review: November 2025 Production Machining's November 2025 technology showcase includes some of the latest technology from Mazak, Platinum Tooling, Methods Machine Tools, Tormach Inc. and Verisurf.

CloudNC raises $20M from Nimble Ventures and Lockheed Martin's fund as its AI reaches 1,000+ machine shops.

CloudNC raises $20M from Nimble Ventures and Lockheed Martin's fund as its AI reaches 1,000+ machine shops. September 9, 2026 * CloudNC raised $20 million, led by Nimble Ventures, with Lockheed Martin's fund also investing. * Its AI software, CAM Assist, now runs in more than 1,000 machine shops worldwide. * CloudNC is pursuing FedRAMP certification to sell directly to US defence agencies. Theo Saville spent his university years getting comfortable with 3D printers before he ever touched a CNC machine. The jump was jarring: a 3D printer took a file and made a part; a CNC machine took a file, an engineer's patience, and days of manual programming before it made anything at all. His future co-founder, Chris Emery, had assumed the machines were already automatic. 10 years after the two set out to fix that gap, CloudNC has raised $20 million, led by US investor Nimble Ventures, with Calculus Venture Capital, Entrepreneur First, and LM Ventures also participating. From a lab frustration to 1,000 machine shops. CloudNC, founded in London in 2015 by Saville and Emery, builds software that automates CNC programming, historically one of manufacturing's slowest, most manual steps. Emery brought the coding side: he had been writing software since age 12, sold his own shareware at 15, and later worked as an engineer at Google before co-founding CloudNC. Its flagship product, CAM Assist, plugs directly into CAM packages such as Fusion, Mastercam, and Siemens NX and generates milling strategies and toolpaths in seconds rather than hours. It now runs in more than 1,000 machine shops globally, including hundreds in the US, and counts Lockheed Martin and Major Tool and Machine among its customers. Targeting the boring bottleneck: quoting. The new money will fund CloudNC's expansion into new markets and the launch of Quote Agent, an AI tool for quoting and estimating machining jobs, due later in 2026. Quoting is unglamorous but expensive to get wrong: move too slowly, and a shop loses the job. "Quoting is one of the biggest hidden bottlenecks in precision machining: move too slowly, and shops can lose the opportunity, or price inaccurately and they can lose margin once the job reaches production," Saville said. That puts CloudNC up against Paperless Parts, the Boston quoting platform that has raised $45.5 million and added its own AI layer, and against fellow CAM-automation startups Limitless Labs, the Tel Aviv startup that Tech Funding News covered raising $20 million in June to program parts for Blue Origin and Cadillac's F1 team - and Manukai, the Zurich, ETH spinout that raised $3 million. CloudNC's edge is scale: more than 1,000 live shop deployments is a bigger footprint than either rival claims. Lockheed Martin, investor and customer. The more interesting wrinkle is Lockheed Martin's dual role. It is both a named customer and, through LM Ventures, a repeat investor - it also joined CloudNC's $45 million Series B in 2022, which we covered at the time. CloudNC is now working with Knox Systems toward FedRAMP certification for CAM Assist, the US government's cloud-security standard, a step that would open the door to defence and other sensitive manufacturing workloads. Nimble Ventures founder John Burbank, who built the $4 billion hedge fund Passport Capital before moving into venture investing, said: "CloudNC's automation of CNC will enable massive increases in onshoring of manufacturing and global production of mission-critical components." AI is moving deeper into manufacturing. CloudNC's Series A raised £9 million from Atomico in 2018. Its 2022 Series B added $45 million from Autodesk, Lockheed Martin, and British Patient Capital. Saville has previously put the company's total funding at more than $75 million; this round takes that past $95 million. The CNC programming software market alone is estimated at $823 million and is forecast to reach $1.16 billion by 2034, a fraction of the broader industrial-AI wave that has also funded Berlin's Almetra, a €16.3 million for factory-floor vision, and London's Isembard, which raised £37.5 million to run AI factories directly. Whether CAM Assist and Quote Agent end up as the default layer between CAD file and finished part, or just one of several competing copilots vying for the same shop floor, depends on how many machinists actually trust software to make that first call.

London-based CloudNC raises €17.2 million to scale AI-powered precision machining.

London-based CloudNC raises €17.2 million to scale AI-powered precision machining. September 9, 2026 CloudNC, a London-based startup that develops AI software for precision machining, today announced it has raised €17.2 million ($20 million) to support wider adoption of its flagship product, further growth in existing and new markets, and the launch of new products. The round was led by Nimble Ventures, a US-based venture investor, with participation from other investors including Calculus Venture Capital, Entrepreneur First and LM Ventures, Lockheed Martin's venture capital fund. Theo Saville, CEO and co-founder of CloudNC, said, "Machine shops everywhere are under pressure to quote and program faster, and deliver more with the people and machines they already have. This investment allows us to stay focused on what matters most to our customers: making CAM Assist even more effective at accelerating daily production, expanding into more markets, and developing new AI products that address critical bottlenecks across machining workflows." Founded in 2015, CloudNC accelerates CAM programming, maximises factory output, and empowers machinists to deliver more, using AI. Its lead product, CAM Assist, uses AI to reduce the time required to create CNC machining strategies and toolpaths. According to the UK startup, this allows teams to move from design to production faster and enables skilled operators to increase their output. It states that this funding comes as the company moves from early adoption of CAM Assist to broader commercial scale. It is also actively working with Knox Systems toward achieving FedRAMP certification for CAM Assist. This will help enable US government agencies, defence contractors, and other organisations with stringent security and compliance requirements to use CAM Assist for sensitive manufacturing workloads. John Burbank, founder of Nimble Ventures, said, "CloudNC's automation of CNC will enable massive increases in onshoring of manufacturing and global production of mission-critical components." The company reports that its technology is currently used by more than 1,000 machine shops globally, including hundreds in the US. The customer base is also growing rapidly in new markets, where the funding will help support further customer adoption and market development. Notable customers include Lockheed Martin, Major Tool, and Machine. CloudNC is also developing new products, including Quote Agent, which will be available later in 2026. Quote Agent assesses new jobs and prepares quotes. By applying AI for quoting and estimating, CloudNC aims to help manufacturers respond to customer enquiries more quickly and consistently, reduce administrative effort, and improve confidence in early-stage job assessment. Saville added, "Quote Agent is a natural next step for CloudNC as we seek to accelerate global machining with AI. CAM Assist already helps machinists get parts onto machines faster; Quote Agent will help shops assess new work, prepare quotes more efficiently and respond to customers with greater confidence. "Quoting is one of the biggest hidden bottlenecks in precision machining: move too slowly and shops can lose the opportunity, or price inaccurately and they can lose margin once the job reaches production. We believe our AI can make quoting faster, more consistent and more scalable, helping manufacturers win more of the right work while keeping expert judgement firmly in control." The company plans to use this capital to enable more machine shops to adopt its AI solutions and to expand into new and existing markets. The funding will also support the development and launch of new products, including Quote Agent. It will also use the investment to support further growth in its go-to-market operations, including building its commercial presence, customer support and partner activity in fast-growing markets.

CAM Assist, the first AI plug-in for CAM, is now available for GibbsCAM.

CAM Assist, the first AI plug-in for CAM, is now available for GibbsCAM. CloudNC - a manufacturing technology company - today announces that its CAM Assist solution, which uses AI to generate machining strategies for 3 and 3+2 axis CNC machines, is now available for GibbsCAM users. The new software is available as an AI-enabled add-on for GibbsCAM, the CAM software solution used by machine shops to program CNC machines for everything from everyday production work to complex, geometrically-demanding components. The development brings the benefits of CAM Assist to even more machinists around the world, enabling GibbsCAM users to easily program toolpaths and machine parts more efficiently than ever before, within their familiar CAM workflow. Theo Saville, chief executive and co-founder at CloudNC, said: "GibbsCAM is a powerful fit for machine shops that want a smart, flexible CAM solution that can scale from day-to-day production work to produce complex components. Bringing CAM Assist to GibbsCAM helps those users go even faster, meaning programmers can spend less time on repetitive toolpath creation, stay firmly in control of the process, and focus more of their expertise on getting high-quality parts out of the door." Thorsten Strauss, President of GibbsCAM, said: "At GibbsCAM, our focus has always been to provide manufacturers with powerful, practical solutions that help them produce parts more efficiently. By integrating CAM Assist, we are bringing cutting-edge AI technology directly into the workflows our customers already know and trust. This collaboration with CloudNC enables programmers to automate repetitive programming tasks, accelerate part programming, and focus their expertise where it delivers the greatest value, all while maintaining full control of the machining process." CAM Assist uses advanced computer science techniques and AI to generate intuitive machining strategies in minutes or seconds, depending on complexity, which could take CNC machine programmers hours or even days to manually create. As a result, the amount of time it takes to program a CNC machine to make a component - a bottleneck in many factories - is greatly reduced, compared to the previous manual programming process, as is the time spent to estimate how much a new component will cost to program. That gain enables manufacturers using CAM Assist to raise productivity and shorten lead times, while also estimating for more work, more quickly. GibbsCAM users can also immediately benefit from CAM Assist 2.0. The upgrade combines the speed of AI-powered toolpath generation with step-by-step oversight, allowing programmers to configure machines, materials and tool assemblies, assess parts before running, review AI suggestions as they are made, and use the Strategy Editor to inspect, adjust and approve machining strategies before they are sent back into GibbsCAM.
