Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • At least two years of work experience in a low-voltage-related environment, such as an audiovisual integrator, cable or internet service provider installer, or commercial cabling firm, is required.
  • Knowledge of broadcast standards and broadcast production equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of signal flow, distortion, noise, and electrical propagation is required.
  • Ability to test and identify equipment and cable functionality is required.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and low-voltage test equipment is required.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic systems, equipment, and cable malfunctions and solve problems under pressure is required.
  • Ability to complete work orders accurately and on time is required.
  • Ability to work on ladders and scaffolding, climb ladders, and maneuver in confined areas is required.
  • Good hand dexterity, color discrimination, ability to read small print, and ability to hear and recognize audible signals are required.
  • Ability to lift or move equipment, tools, and furniture weighing more than 50 pounds may be required.
  • Ability to communicate and interpret complex technical information in simplified terms is required.
  • Adherence to quality and safety codes for low-voltage installations and repairs is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform daily low-voltage tasks and contribute to a variety of low-voltage projects.
  • Install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and perform testing activities on cables and related equipment.
  • Pull cables through walls, overhead spaces, above drop ceilings, and underground structures.
  • Terminate Cat6, RG6, RG11, speaker, XLR, RCA, and other video cables using punch, crimping, and soldering tools.
  • Rack and integrate network switches, processors, amplifiers, power supply units, and battery backup equipment.
  • Hang, mount, and relocate televisions and LED displays.
  • Install and remove classroom audiovisual equipment, including projectors, projector screens, speakers, podium equipment, and related equipment.
  • Complete work orders involving connecting and moving devices, installing cable, and troubleshooting signal failures.
  • Work with facility crew members on office moves, cubicle setups, and new employee locations to perform low-voltage work.
  • Work with events crew members on event-related and broadcast-related low-voltage needs.
  • Support actions and activities directed by the campus technology department and broader campus needs.
  • Move on-site equipment, tools, furniture, and other items as needed.
  • Climb ladders, use power lifts, and climb scaffolding to complete work orders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Any Project Management Institute certification from an organization with experience, coursework, and test requirements.
  • CompTIA A+ and Network+ certifications.
  • AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, and CTS-I certifications.
