What the company does: Eternal.ag builds autonomous harvesting robots for greenhouse crops, helping growers automate picking and handling to support resilient, scalable greenhouse operations. How the product works: The robots operate inside greenhouses, navigating rows, identifying ripe produce, and autonomously picking and transporting it to an appropriate place for handling or packaging, enabling hands-free, scalable harvests. How it differs from competitors: The offering emphasizes autonomous harvest capability tailored to controlled-environment farming, aiming to provide dependable, scalable harvesting that reduces labor dependency and improves consistency for growers. What the company’s goal is: To give growers a reliable, scalable automation solution that ensures harvest certainty today and as operations grow.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • March 2026 funding brought €8 million from Simon Capital and peers.
  • Van Noord Growers expanded from one robot to three during summer 2026.
  • May 2026 Trolley launch broadens sales before full robot adoption cycles complete.

What critics are saying

  • Four Growers, Denso, and TTA target the same tomato-harvesting buyers now.
  • Single-crop tomato automation leaves eternal.ag exposed until cucumber and other crops ship.
  • If Van Noord performance slips in 2026, the RaaS model loses credibility fast.

What makes eternal.ag unique

  • Simulation-first training on NVIDIA Isaac Sim reduces greenhouse deployment risk.
  • Harvester runs 22 hours daily and plugs into existing greenhouse infrastructure.
  • Trolley converts into Harvester credit, lowering buyer lock-in and stranded-capital fears.

Physical AI tackles labour shortage in greenhouses with autonomous harvesting robots

Eternal.ag, a Cologne-based startup, has raised approximately $10 million from European investors to deploy autonomous harvesting robots in greenhouses. Led by CEO Renji John, the company addresses severe labour shortages in controlled environment agriculture through physical AI and robotics. The startup's battery-powered robots operate 22 hours daily in tomato-growing greenhouses, navigating on rails or concrete floors using sensors and computer vision. The technology eliminates the need for six human operators per 10-hectare facility, reducing annual labour costs of $250,000 in developed economies. Eternal.ag operates on a robots-as-a-service model, generating revenue based on produce harvested. The company announced its first paying customer, Van Noord Growers in the Netherlands, which has deployed one robot since September 2025 with plans to add more for tomatoes and cucumbers.
