Requirements
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and admission to at least one state bar in good standing are required.
  • At least 5 years of similar or related experience are required.
  • A law license in at least one state is required.
  • A thorough understanding of HIPAA and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act is required.
  • Prior experience in health insurance compliance is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, acute listening skills, and excellent legal research skills are required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to record detailed information thoroughly and accurately, are required.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively with coworkers and share knowledge as part of a team is required.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse cultures and personalities, whether local or virtual, are required.
  • The ability to establish credibility, be decisive and responsive, and recognize and support organizational preferences and priorities is required.
  • Self-motivation is required.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Compliance Department in implementing the company’s Compliance program.
  • Research and advise on federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations affecting the company’s agencies, including HIPAA and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and conduct other legal research as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Conduct contract reviews and draft legal documents as assigned by the General Counsel.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures consistent with established legal principles and requirements.
  • Escalate compliance and privacy concerns to the General Counsel.
  • Provide oversight in assessing product, compliance, privacy, and operational risks and contribute to risk management strategies.
  • Assist in managing litigation as needed.
  • Contribute to the annual Compliance Work Plan.
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of compliance trends and applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance practices are maintained and upheld.
  • Operate in alignment with policies and standards, report security incidents, complete assigned training, and protect assigned organizational assets.
