PPS STEAM Summer Camp Student Guides | $15/h | $1,740 for 4 weeks
Calling all Portland-based students and summer camp-enthusiasts! SAM Labs is looking for talented, enthusiastic, creative and energetic high schoolers who can help instructors facilitate four weeks of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math)and Coding summer camp throughout July. No coding or technical skills are required but an interest in STEM or Computer Science is preferred.
We are seeking student guides to support a lead teacher across four, week-long STEAM and Coding camps that run from July 1st - August 1st with the 4th & 5th of July off. All of the lessons and resources required for instruction for the days of programming. From unplugged activities to design challenges, you will have the opportunity to facilitate some of the most engaging and fun STEAM and coding activities with a classroom of K-2 or 3-5 students at one of our PPS school sites each week. The required hours are from 12:30pm-5:30pm per day. You will therefore be working a total of 5 hours per day across the 4 weeks of programming.
SAM Labs is paying the competitive rate of $15 per hour, with a total earning of $1,650 for the month of work + $15 per hour for required training time (6 hours) = ~$1,740 total compensation per instructor.
This exciting opportunity will not only allow you to work directly with bright and inspiring young students, but will also provide a chance for you to develop your own skills! Are you curious about coding or engineering design? Maybe you’re interested in a career in education? With our pre-camp training, you will be equipped to not only facilitate and guide the students, but also to apply those skills to future projects and initiatives. All of the instruction time will be led by your lead instructor, a certified educator.
Requirements:
- Full availability during the following weeks or days:
- July 1-3rd to facilitate the programming in-person
- July 8th-12th to facilitate the programming in-person
- July 15th-19th to facilitate the programming in-person
- July 22nd-26th to facilitate the programming in-person
- July 29th-1st to facilitate the programming in-person
- Must be available for 6 hours of SAM Labs training prior to the learning during the week of June 24th
- Must be a PPS high school student (High School students of PPS do not require Fingerprint Clearance; including recently graduated students. Students over 18 will be required to submit a background check.)
- Must complete mandatory PPS safety training prior to camp
