Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Medicine or related field
  • 8 years in Laboratory Medicine discipline with 5 years management experience in a relevant professional and clinical environment in a progressively responsible role
  • Knowledge of: Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Laboratory, Customer / Client Services, Phlebotomy and Information Systems
  • Skill in leadership, written communication, innovative problem solving
  • Skill in systematic data analysis, problem analysis and goal planning
  • Skill in computers and personal productivity applications
  • Able to encourage collaborative efforts between functional teams
  • Certification in Medical Technology through an accrediting agency (such as ASCP) or a subspecialty certification in a discipline in which the employee is to work
Responsibilities
  • Facilitates a multifunctional team to ensure Clinical Laboratory operations provide efficient, high quality, cost-effective laboratory services
  • Develops and implements work processes for all areas of responsibility
  • Establishes policies for all clinical and business operational tasks within assigned areas
  • Directs the evaluation of new technologies, procedures and supplies
  • Provides counsel on new test or service implementation
  • Plans, implements and monitors achievement of strategic business objectives
  • Communicates initiatives to appropriate personnel
  • Identifies, implements and monitors new practice opportunities for growth
  • Provides investigation and resolution for issues brought up by clinicians and customers related to Clinical Laboratory testing
  • Monitors, investigates and responds to customer, physician and pathologist feedback, modifying technical and office systems, processes as needed
  • Maintain or improves Key Performance Indicators
  • Manages human resources within established productivity guidelines and the personnel budget
  • Facilitates training and development efforts
  • Maintains employee competencies
  • Monitors and reviews work performance of the staff
  • Interviews and selects personnel
  • Provides development opportunities to staff
  • Responsible for the supervision of Medical Technologists, Medical Technicians, Laboratory Clinical Specialist, Medical Tech Specialist Shift Supervisor, Chemistry and Point of Care Testing Lead Coordinator and Laboratory Informatics Coordinator
  • Oversees staff involvement in quality control and improvement efforts, general safety, and infection control procedures
  • Initiates, monitors, evaluates performance improvement on a unit level as needed
  • Monitors trends, reviews and revises systems/processes as appropriate
