Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a related field and eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner and eligibility for Kentucky licensure as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner.
  • Any specific certification required for the position must be obtained before the hire date.
  • Ability to perform the role as a full-time, exempt employee with a regular 40-hour workweek; additional hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, or scheduling.
Responsibilities
  • Provide health services to patients in accordance with established clinic and University procedures and protocols.
  • Provide health education to patients regarding preventive care and prescribed treatments.
  • Examine patients, complete medical diagnoses, assess patient conditions, and plan care based on assessments.
  • Consult with a staff physician regarding patient care as necessary.
  • Advocate for patients by addressing concerns, assessing situations, reporting concerns to designated clinic staff, recommending applicable patient actions, and instituting treatment plans when necessary.
  • Maintain patient records according to established clinic and University procedures and protocols and facilitate effective communication with colleagues and patients.
  • Serve as a professional role model and resource through demonstration of advanced nursing practice.
  • Assess professional development in collaboration with a supervisor and participate in in-service training and continuing education programs to maintain and develop clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Apply clinical judgment, active listening, critical thinking, and effective decision-making in the performance of duties.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and share observations, concerns, and feedback related to clinic improvements and initiatives.
  • Assist with the development, review, and revision of clinical practice guidelines and provide recommendations for more effective clinic processes and operations.
  • Lead one or more department or clinic initiatives.
  • Assist with Division initiatives such as freshman orientation, Welcome Week, and resident move-in events, as available.
  • Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned.
  • Rotate between Cardinal Station and the Health Sciences Campus to provide care.

Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in nursing with clinical specialization as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • Five years of nursing experience in a campus health setting or similar setting serving student patients.
  • Primary care experience.
  • Basic Life Support and cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automated external defibrillator certification.
  • Experience participating in professional organizations and quality improvement projects.
