Requirements
  • Two to three years of teaching experience in a public school or charter school setting, or a similar background.
  • A bachelor's degree in English from an accredited college or university.
  • A valid New York State certification is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Teach a standards-based English Language Arts curriculum.
  • Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials.
  • Teach English language, literature, composition, and reading content and skills.
  • Incorporate technology into instruction on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide interactive and meaningful learning materials, maintain a positive learning environment, assign homework, and conduct periodic assessments to measure student growth and progress.
  • Deliver quality instruction and execute the instructional program by progressively requiring higher-order thinking activities.
  • Design a challenging curriculum and support students' overall language development.
  • Prepare assignments and create teaching methods suited to students' varying learning styles.
  • Implement effective classroom management skills that build a positive classroom culture.
  • Participate in professional development and collaborate with colleagues and instructional leaders to improve instructional practices and student learning.
  • Build meaningful and professional relationships with students and their families.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by school leadership.
