- Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals and recent relevant clinical nursing experience.
- Completion of the Basic Cardiac Life Support Course, Level C.
- Eligibility for appointment to the Providence Health Care Department of Nurse Practitioners as medical staff.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with patients, clients, residents, and families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, self-care, and prognosis.
- Ability to collaborate, consult with, and formally refer patients, clients, and residents to physicians and other health professionals when appropriate.
- Ability to critically assess and evaluate health research literature to determine best practices and introduce education and evidence-based research.

- Initiate treatment, provide health-care management and therapeutic interventions, and prescribe medications in accordance with statutory and regulatory standards and employer policies.
- Provide professional guidance to health professionals and practice autonomously and interdependently within an interdisciplinary health-care team.
- Refer patients, clients, and residents to specialist physicians and other appropriate resources.
- Identify and assess health trends and patterns affecting patients, clients, residents, families, and communities.
- Develop and implement population-based and evidence-based strategies to improve health and participate in policy-making activities that influence health services and practices.
- Participate in peer review and self-review to evaluate service outcomes at the patient, community, and population levels.
- Diagnose and treat previously undiagnosed patients, clients, and residents with undifferentiated diseases, disorders, and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
- Write treatment and medication orders, provide first-line emergency care, and provide continuous care.
- Monitor ongoing care, order screening and diagnostic investigations, interpret investigation reports, and analyze information to monitor progress and plan treatment.
- Establish priorities for managing health, diseases, disorders, and conditions; provide follow-up treatment; communicate findings, diagnoses, priorities, outcomes, and prognoses; and support and counsel patients, clients, and residents.
- Collaborate with physicians, health-care teams, and social service providers to determine appropriate resources and develop and implement treatment plans.
- Admit and discharge patients, clients, and residents to facilities in accordance with medical staff bylaws when applicable.
- Prescribe drugs within the statutory and regulatory standards, limits, and conditions for Nurse Practitioners and applicable employer policies.
- Assign work to nursing and health-care personnel, evaluate their work, provide education and supervision, hire staff, and evaluate staff performance.
- Participate in research and quality-improvement activities that contribute to patient care, nursing advances, health-policy development, and population health.
- Implement screening and health-promotion activities for populations at risk.
- Educate Nurse Practitioner students and other health-care professionals through preceptorship, role modelling, and knowledge exchange in clinical, classroom, and community environments.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures related to nursing, interdisciplinary care, and health-system practices.
- Complete Encounter Records to evaluate Nurse Practitioner implementation as required by the Ministry of Health.
- Perform other duties as required.
