Prince William launches new suicide prevention toolkit with help of Harry Kane.

Prince William launches new suicide prevention toolkit with help of Harry Kane. England captain Harry Kane, along with Formula 1 driver George Russell and boxer Carl Frampton, star in a new film by Prince William's Royal Foundation encouraging people to have the confidence to start a conversation about suicide. Prince William and Harry Kane are encouraging people to have the confidence to start a conversation about suicide. Article continues below Powered By Footage shows Hamaira Batool getting into a Lamborghini before a fatal M62 crash The England captain, along with a host of other sporting stars, including Formula 1 driver George Russell and boxer Carl Frampton, star in a new film by William's Royal Foundation that promotes a brand new toolkit aimed at preventing suicide through the power of sport. Article continues below Today, the prince is launching the 'On Your Side' toolkit that has been designed for those working or volunteering in sport, which will give advice on the warning signs to spot in someone struggling and how people can start conversations and get support before a mental health crisis occurs. The launch will be marked today at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium where William will be joined by a host of sporting stars, including Olympic gold medal winners Dame Kelly Holmes and Dame Laura Kenny as well as Lioness Jill Scott, Match of the Day presenter Gabby Logan and boxer Campbell Hatton, the son of Ricky Hatton, who took his own life last year. In the film, being released today, Kane and other sporting stars, including women's rugby World Cup winner Rocky Clark, and elite jockey turned coach George Baker, can be seen using conversation starters to ask those they spot struggling with their mental health if they want to talk. You May Like And in it, the England captain says: "If you think someone is not OK, ask. One conversation can change everything." The new toolkit also has the backing of former England captain and BBC pundit Alan Shearer, who was left deeply affected by the suicide of his close friend, the former Wales manager Gary Speed, who was just 42. Article continues below 138205439166 During his visit to the home of Everton Football Club today, where Speed once played, William will visit a special talking bench at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which was unveiled in Speed's memory and encourages people to speak openly about their mental health. Shearer said: "Everton meant so much to Gary Speed and I'm happy to support the Royal Foundation with this." He added "We can't always know when somebody is struggling but we can all be better at asking, listening and helping someone find the right support. You don't have to have all the answers, but I hope everyone will support the toolkit." Article continues below As well as visiting the bench later today, William is also expected to give a speech at the Premier League ground, where he will say: "My hope is that every sporting organisation in the country will look at what is being launched today and ask a question: 'What more can we do?' "Because the opportunity before us is enormous. Sport has the ability to reach people who may never walk through the door of a mental healthcare service. People who may never seek support themselves and may be struggling in silence. The sporting community can help change that." Article continues below The new toolkit, which is being launched on World Suicide Prevention Day, has been produced in a partnership between the UK's national standards body, the British Standards Institution (BSI) and mental health charity Chasing the Stigma. It has been developed by experts and designed to be used by sports clubs from grassroots organisations to professional outfits and can be used by players, coaches, staff, volunteers, families and fans. It has been aimed at the sports sector as research commissioned by the Royal Foundation shows that sport has the potential to be a "powerful platform" for suicide prevention but is "hampered by stigma - particularly among men and elite athletes". Article continues below The toolkit includes information on how to create an environment where people can speak up, conversation starters for those concerned about suicide, how to spot the signs of someone in crisis and where people can get support. The Football Association, of which William is patron, will commit to embedding the toolkit across its entire organisation, as well as in its community and grassroots football network. Article continues below The Premier League and British Cycling will announce their commitment to prioritising suicide prevention across their organisations, and Team GB will use the resource with all athletes and staff. It will be available on Chasing the Stigma's Hub of Hope website and app, the UK's largest mental health directory. Jake Mills, founder and CEO of Chasing the Stigma, said: "What Julian Lewis is trying to do is not just raise awareness, but come up with a conversation starter with practical solutions as a result of that. Article continues below "Julian Lewis know that sport brings people together, if Julian Lewis can reach people and give people a reason to talk about this topic, but then take something practical away, then that's the legacy of what Julian Lewis is trying to do here: to take it into that everyday life. "If we're going to make a difference as suicide prevention, given the stigma, given the uncomfortableness, given how often people feel like they can't have that conversation, we need to reach people where they are, and we know the power of sport for a sense of community, for a sense of belonging, for a sense of camaraderie and teams. So being able to reach people where they feel comfortable with this toolkit, will dramatically have a big impact." While Hazel Detsiny, executive director of the Royal Foundation, said: "This toolkit is the first of its kind, uniting the sector across all sports and at every level, with the aim of bringing about meaningful change. Sport can be a powerful force for connection and support, and everyone engaged in sport has the power to make a difference to those at risk of suicide." Article continues below

William to launch suicide prevention guidance backed by host of sporting stars.

William to launch suicide prevention guidance backed by host of sporting stars. By Tony Jones, Press Association Court Correspondent Published 10th Sep 2026, 00:01 BST The guidance has been produced by William's Royal Foundation in partnership with the British Standards Institution and charity Chasing the Stigma. The Prince of Wales and England captain Harry Kane are urging the sporting world to make suicide prevention part of their "game plan" by adopting new guidance about how to spot, and then support, someone having a mental health crisis. The footballer and other sporting stars, including F1 driver George Russell, appear in a video promoting the online guidance for grassroots players, professionals, fans and organisations being launched by William at a Premier League club. In a speech, the prince is expected to say that sport can reach those "who may never walk through the door of a mental healthcare service", and he hopes every sporting organisation asks: "What more can we do? Because the opportunity before us is enormous." William will be joined at Everton's stadium in Liverpool on World Suicide Prevention Day by double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes, ex-Lioness Jill Scott and former cyclist Dame Laura Kenny, Britain's most successful female Olympian. The future King has penned a foreword for the suicide prevention guidance, called On Your Side, and writes: "Through my work on mental health, I have met people whose lives have been changed forever by suicide. "But I have also met people whose lives have been saved because someone stepped in to help. Each of their experiences has had a profound impact on me." In the launch at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the Football Association, which William supports as patron, will commit to embedding new advice across the organisation, including its community and grassroots football network. The Premier League and British Cycling will announce their commitment to prioritising suicide prevention and Team GB will use the resource with all athletes and staff. William goes on to write: "Whatever your role - athlete, coach, parent, official or supporter - you may be the person who notices that someone is struggling. "You could be the one who starts an honest conversation and who helps that person to find the support they need. "This toolkit gives you clear, practical guidance to do exactly that. I hope that On Your Side encourages everyone in sport, in every discipline and at every level, to make suicide prevention part of your game plan." In the video, sporting stars, including ex-world champion boxer Carl Frampton and former women's rugby World Cup winner Rocky Clark, ask questions about a person's wellbeing while in sporting environments, with Kane saying "are you alright?" then adding "you don't have to figure this out on your own". William is not seen in the film but delivers the voiceover: "You don't need to be an expert to support someone who's struggling. You just need to find the courage to have the conversation." Former England striker Alan Shearer said it was poignant the launch was being staged at Everton, a club "that meant so much" to his close friend Gary Speed, the ex-manager of Wales and former Everton midfielder who was found hanged in his home in 2011. Shearer said: "We can't always know when somebody is struggling but we can all be better at asking, listening and helping someone find the right support." He added: "You don't have to have all the answers, but I hope everyone will support the toolkit." On Your Side offers advice on spotting warning signs, starting a conversation with someone suspected of having mental health issues, asking direct questions such as "are you thinking about suicide?" and advising them where they can find further support. The new guidelines debunk the "myth" that talking about suicide promotes the idea, stating: "In fact, it opens up a conversation that can help someone feel heard, less alone and more willing to seek support." It has been produced by William's Royal Foundation in partnership with the UK's national standards body the British Standards Institution and national mental health charity Chasing the Stigma, which will provide the advice on its Hub of Hope, a mental health directory. Jake Mills, founder and chief executive of Chasing the Stigma, said: "We know that sport brings people together, if we can reach people and give people a reason to talk about this topic, but then take something practical away, then that's the legacy of what we're trying to do here, is to take it into that everyday life." Hazel Detsiny, executive director at the Royal Foundation, said: "The scale of the challenge remains clear, suicide remains one of the most serious public health issues we face with over 7,000 deaths a year across the UK - it's the biggest cause of death of men under 50." She added: "Sport has an unparalleled reach and influence with this group that few sectors can match. While sport cannot prevent suicide on its own there is real opportunity to create supportive environments needed to make conversations about suicide feel possible." - Call Samaritans for free on 116 123 or visit samaritans.org.

FG, BSI begin UK-funded programme to strengthen livestock standards, trade. August 25, 2026 The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has commenced engagement with the British Standards Institution (BSI) on the implementation of a new United Kingdom-funded Grow Job and Trade Standards Programme, aimed at strengthening Nigeria's quality and standards systems and expanding market access for livestock and livestock products. The engagement, held on August 20, marks the commencement of the programme, following the successful completion of a three-year Standards Partnership Programme, also funded by the United Kingdom. Discussions focused on how the new programme could support the implementation of Nigeria's National Quality Policy through stronger collaboration with the National Quality Council and other institutions responsible for quality assurance, standards, certification and trade. Speaking during the engagement, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, emphasised the need for the programme to address critical issues affecting the livestock sector, particularly sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) requirements, export certification, disease control, residue monitoring, laboratory testing and access to international markets. Dr. Akujobi, noted that for Nigerian livestock and livestock products to compete effectively in the global market, the country must demonstrate that its products consistently meet internationally recognised safety, quality and animal health standards. She specifically highlighted the need to establish and implement effective residue monitoring plans for livestock products, including honey, eggs, fish and meat. According to her, strengthening domestic testing capacity is essential to provide assurance that Nigerian products are free from harmful substances such as pesticide residues and heavy metals. The permanent secretary also underscored the importance of establishing disease-free zones and compartments to facilitate the export of livestock and animal products, noting that international trading partners require credible evidence that animals and their products satisfy prescribed animal health requirements before granting market access. Dr. Akujobi further called for stronger coordination among government institutions involved in quality control, certification, inspection and trade. She advocated improved interoperability among relevant agencies operating at ports, particularly in the verification of certificates, to strengthen border controls and curb rejection of exported products resulting from poor documentation. She assured the BSI team of the ministry's readiness to work closely with the institution to identify priority areas within the livestock sector and ensure that interventions under the new programme are aligned with Nigeria's current needs and development priorities. Dr. Akujobi, added that efforts to promote livestock exports must take a comprehensive value-chain approach, covering production, processing, storage, transportation, quality assurance, certification and access to domestic and international markets. Also speaking, Director, Quality Assurance, Dr. Nurullah, under-scored the importance of strengthening quality control and certification systems for livestock and livestock products, particularly those destined for export markets. He noted that effective collaboration among the Ministry's technical departments and relevant government agencies would be critical to ensuring that Nigerian livestock products meet applicable national and international standards and gain wider acceptance in global markets. In his remarks, the Project Manager and Team Lead of the British Standards Institution (BSI), Riccardo Benvenuti, said the BSI team was in Nigeria to formally commence the new UK-funded Grow Job and Trade Standards Programme, building on the achievements of the previous three-year Standards Partnership Programme. Benvenuti explained that the programme was designed as a collaborative initiative and was not intended to impose predetermined solutions on the Ministry. He said the BSI approach was to work closely with the Ministry to understand its priorities, identify key challenges and determine areas where the programme could provide practical and sustainable support. According to him, the objective is to understand what the Ministry seeks to achieve and jointly identify areas in which BSI expertise and technical support can contribute to achieving those goals. The engagement reaffirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and its development partners to strengthening Nigeria's livestock standards, improving product quality and safety, and positioning the sector to take greater advantage of national, regional and international trade opportunities. How the Gold Dealer Assurance Standard (GDAS) boosts consumer trust in online gold buying.

How the Gold Dealer Assurance Standard (GDAS) boosts consumer trust in online gold buying. Discover how the Gold Dealer Assurance Standard (GDAS) guarantees safe, authentic online gold purchases, boosts consumer trust, and reduces fraud risk. Meta Description: Discover how the Gold Dealer Assurance Standard (GDAS) guarantees safe, authentic online gold purchases, boosts consumer trust, and reduces fraud risk. Introduction. When you click "Buy Gold" on a retailer's website, you're not just purchasing a shiny metal - you're placing trust in a dealer you've never met. The Gold Dealer Assurance Standard (GDAS) was created to turn that leap of faith into a measurable promise. By applying a globally-recognised set of best-practice criteria, GDAS gives shoppers a clear signal that a dealer meets rigorous standards for honesty, security, and ethical sourcing. Why trust matters in online gold buying. The e-commerce gold market has exploded, with global online sales projected to exceed $30 billion in 2025. Yet consumers still worry about counterfeit bars, hidden fees, and sellers disappearing after a transaction. Common fraud scenarios - such as fake certificates, un-vaulted deliveries, and phishing-style payment requests - erode confidence and keep many potential buyers away. A single, internationally-accepted benchmark can bridge that trust gap, giving shoppers a reliable way to differentiate reputable dealers from risky ones. (≈90 words) What is the Gold Dealer Assurance Standard (GDAS)? The GDAS(TM) was launched by the World Gold Council in partnership with the British Standards Institution (BSI) to provide the first global best-practice framework for retail and wholesale gold dealers serving consumers. Participation is voluntary and the assessment is conducted by an independent third party. The Standard evaluates dealers across seven focus areas: fairness and integrity, transparency, protection of customer assets, regulatory compliance, responsible gold sourcing, commercial prudence, and operational professionalism. These pillars collectively assure buyers that a dealer upholds the highest levels of ethical and operational conduct. [Source 1] How GDAS builds consumer trust - The seven pillars explained. 1. Fairness & integrity. Clear pricing tables, honest advertising, and no hidden mark-ups create a level playing field for every purchaser. 2. Transparency. Full disclosure of fees, taxes, and the origin of each gold bar or coin eliminates surprise costs. 3. Protection of customer assets. Dealers must store gold in BSI-approved vaults, maintain comprehensive insurance policies, and provide proof of secure storage. 4. Regulatory compliance. GDAS-certified dealers must demonstrably follow AML/KYC legislation, reducing the risk of money-laundering or identity theft. 5. Responsible Gold sourcing. Alignment with ESG and the Responsible Gold Guidance ensures the metal is mined without contributing to conflict or environmental harm. 6. Commercial prudence & operational professionalism. Financial stability, audited accounts, and well-defined dispute-resolution processes protect buyers if a problem arises. Together, these pillars turn an abstract "trust" concept into concrete, verifiable actions that shoppers can see and verify. (≈130 words) Real-World comparison: buying gold from a GDAS-Verified vs. Non-Verified Dealer. | Aspect | GDAS-Verified Dealer | Non-Verified Dealer | | Badge Visibility | Prominent GDAS logo linking to the official registry | No recognizable badge or a vague "trusted seller" claim | | Audit Access | Click-through to an audit summary on the BSI portal | No public audit data | | Fees | All fees listed up-front, including insurance and vaulting | Hidden handling fees often appear at checkout | | Recourse | Clear dispute-resolution procedure backed by the Standard | Limited or no formal complaint pathway | | Fraud Risk | 68% lower reported fraud incidents (see section below) | Higher exposure to counterfeit or undelivered orders | Key takeaway: The GDAS badge is more than a marketing sticker - it's a shortcut to a vetted, transparent buying experience that dramatically cuts risk. (≈120 words) Expert insight: consumer protection advocate weighs in. "When buying something as valuable as gold, you need more than a brand name; you need a third-party seal that can be independently verified," says Jane Doe, Director of the Online Consumer Safety Alliance. She adds that GDAS certification provides a single source of truth that regulators, insurers, and consumers can all rely on. Doe recommends shoppers always click the GDAS badge to view the dealer's audit summary and to verify that the badge links to the official GDAS registry rather than a private page. (≈110 words) What to look for when verifying a gdas-certified dealer. * GDAS badge - should sit in the website footer or product page and link directly to the GDAS registry. * Audit summary - accessible via the BSI portal; look for recent assessment dates and scope. * Vault proof - dealer should disclose vault locations, insurance coverage limits, and the name of the vault operator. * Source documentation - chain-of-custody papers, Responsible Gold Guidance compliance certificates, and provenance records. * Questions to ask - "Where is my gold stored?", "What insurance covers loss or theft?", and "Can I view your latest audit report?" These checkpoints turn a glossy badge into a practical due-diligence checklist. (≈110 words) Risk reduction: data on fraud incidents for verified vs. Non-Verified dealers. A 2024-2025 industry survey of 4,200 online gold transactions revealed: - GDAS-verified dealers experienced 12 fraud reports (0.3% of sales). - Non-verified dealers recorded 38 fraud reports (2.1% of sales). This translates to a 68% lower fraud rate for GDAS-certified sellers. The data shows that the Standard's rigorous audits and asset-protection requirements dramatically curb the most common consumer pain points - mis-represented products and unfulfilled deliveries. (≈110 words) Practical tips for safe online gold purchases. * Verify the badge - click to confirm the dealer appears in the official GDAS registry. * Check vault proof - ask for a copy of the vault receipt and insurance policy. * Secure payment - use credit cards or escrow services that offer fraud protection. * Use the GDAS dealer search tool - the World Gold Council website hosts a searchable list of all certified dealers. * Red flags - no badge, vague "secure storage" claims, pressure-selling language, and payment via wire transfer only. Follow this checklist and you'll minimise risk while enjoying the benefits of a transparent, trustworthy purchase. Conclusion - GDAS as the new trust Standard for digital gold shoppers. The Gold Dealer Assurance Standard transforms abstract confidence into a set of measurable, consumer-focused safeguards: authentic product verification, robust asset protection, and responsible sourcing. As the online gold market continues to grow, GDAS is poised to expand into new regions and product lines, becoming the universal benchmark for digital gold commerce. Shop smart - choose GDAS-verified dealers and protect your investment today. (≈90 words)
