Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology.
  • Working knowledge of cardiac catheterization diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, cine film development, pressure injectors, guidewires, catheters, sterile procedure techniques, physiological data computers, and other equipment used in a cardiac catheterization laboratory.
  • Knowledge of cardiac life support and the ability to respond to emergency situations in interventional areas.
  • Knowledge of the biopsychosocial needs of adult, geriatric, and pediatric patients, including growth and development needs where applicable.
  • For the Interventional Radiology department, current registration as a diagnostic technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as R.T. (R), with current Cardiovascular Interventional Technologist or Vascular Interventional registry; if not currently registered in either specialty, the registry must be obtained within 16 months of starting in the department.
  • For the Heart Cath Lab, current registration as an R.T. (R), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist, or Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist at the start date.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, or recertification during the orientation period.
  • For Heart Catheterization Lab employment, current or scheduled Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification or recertification training.
  • Ability to provide safe, efficient, and competent care and demonstrate competency in unit-specific functions.
  • Ability to maintain health and safety standards and not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of self or others.
Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic imaging of patients.
  • Ensure correct usage of cardiac and vascular imaging equipment.
  • Monitor patients physiologically.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Monitor and maintain aseptic technique within the sterile field.
  • Ensure computerized collection and generation of patient data.
  • Ensure correct usage of fluoroscopic and cineangiographic equipment.
  • Perform imaging processing and properly identify patient images and records.
  • Perform compliant coding and billing for procedures and supplies.
  • Assess and anticipate patients' emotional and physiological needs.
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Stay current with developments in the cardiovascular interventional field, including procedures and equipment, through independent study and continuing education.
  • Assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Maintain Integrity Compliance Standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Leapfrog Group collects and reports data related to safety, quality, and other aspects of hospitals' performance. Twice a year, Leapfrog assigns safety grades based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
