Akash Network runs a decentralized cloud compute marketplace where developers, businesses, and enthusiasts can deploy docker containers, blogs, and blockchain nodes at lower costs, powered by a Layer 1 blockchain and the AKT token. Deployers set the price they’re willing to pay for computing resources, and providers bid to fulfill requests, with all transactions settled on the blockchain using AKT and fees earned by the network. It differentiates itself by being fully decentralized and open-source, offering a self-sovereign cloud model where pricing happens in a tokenized marketplace rather than through centralized control. Akash has launched early access to Homenode, a platform enabling consumer-grade GPU owners to contribute computing capacity to its decentralized cloud network. The open beta focuses initially on machines equipped with NVIDIA RTX 4090 or RTX 5090 GPUs. Homenode is delivered as a dedicated operating system that transforms eligible machines into secure provider nodes. Users can dual-boot or partition their devices to keep their normal operating system separate. The platform removes technical barriers to becoming a compute provider, allowing individuals to contribute from a single high-performance machine rather than requiring enterprise infrastructure. Part of Akash's StarCluster initiative for distributed AI compute, the beta aims to validate performance before broader expansion. Akash is building a waitlist for additional GPU models including RTX, GTX, Quadro and professional workstation cards.
