Woolpert conducts first fully uncrewed offshore hydrographic survey with Chance Maritime off Florida's Gulf Coast

Woolpert is conducting its first fully uncrewed offshore hydrographic survey for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration off Pensacola, Florida. The mission deploys multiple uncrewed survey vessels designed by Chance Maritime, equipped with Woolpert's multibeam sonar to map deep-sea corals and ocean habitats. The project will collect 1,391 square nautical miles of high-resolution data to explore deep-sea corals, identify seafloor hazards and update NOAA's nautical charts. The survey utilises Chance Maritime's MC40 and MC29 vessels, enabling continuous remote operations without onboard crews. Woolpert hydrographers positioned across multiple time zones will remotely conduct surveys around the clock, collecting approximately 11,000 linear nautical miles of data. The multi-month mission is expected to complete later this year.
