Requirements
  • Knowledge of current dental concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures and ability to follow them as required.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in an educational setting.
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem-solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically; and adapting communication for the audience.
  • Knowledge of and skills with technology, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Recent graduate of an accredited United States or Canadian dental school and holder of a D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree.
  • Current license to practice dentistry in Wisconsin or ability to obtain the license within one year.
  • Eligibility for a Drug Enforcement Administration license.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification.
Responsibilities
  • Provide general dentistry, including restorative, endodontic, oral surgery, and removable prosthetics, in a clinical setting.
  • Provide health education to improve and maintain patients’ oral health.
  • Assist with examinations and treatment planning for Dental Hygienist program students in the clinical setting.
  • Serve as a preceptor for Dental Assistant program students in a clinical setting.
  • Establish guidelines, update the manual, and monitor compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of Industry Labor and Human Relations, and Centers for Disease Control guidelines on Universal Standards.
  • Provide examinations and treatment plans for the staff dental hygiene practice within the clinic.
  • Act as a resource for Dental Hygienist program faculty.
  • Follow and reinforce clinic policies.
  • Review student clinician appointment plans and instructor objectives.
  • Observe assessments and provide feedback.
  • Review dental charting and plaque/stain verification.
  • Document treatment in Eaglesoft Dental Software for each patient and review client records for signatures.
  • Collaborate with the preceptor to review chart notes at the end of each day.
  • Circulate through the clinic to remain available to student clinicians.
  • Review charts at the beginning of clinical sessions to become familiar with clients’ needs.
  • Recommend additional treatment and provide referrals when necessary.
  • Determine whether a medical release is required before clinical treatment.
  • Review and maintain the medical emergency kit.
  • Handle medical emergencies in the clinic.
  • Participate in monthly chart audits to maintain accreditation standards.
