Requirements
  • Must possess a Juris Doctor degree and be licensed to practice law in Texas.
  • Must have at least three years of litigation experience in Texas courts.
  • Must have at least three years of experience supervising paralegals.
  • Must be proficient in computer applications, online resources, and other classroom technologies.
  • Must be proficient in an online learning management system such as Blackboard.
  • Must be available to teach evenings.
  • Must submit unofficial or copied transcripts, an updated curriculum vitae or résumé, and a cover letter with the application.
  • Must request official electronic transcripts to be sent directly from the institution to the specified Human Resources email address.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare and teach Paralegal Studies courses to a multicultural student population according to approved course learning outcomes and disciplinary standards.
  • Use instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and their needs.
  • Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback based on program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring services to students without discrimination.
  • Remain current in the field through professional development activities.
  • Use the college learning management system appropriately to develop course content and perform administrative duties.
  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
  • Participate in graduation, general assembly, official college functions, and collegewide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve retention and success.
  • Comply with college policies, procedures, and professional standards for community-college teaching.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by academic leadership.
  • Work safely, follow safety rules, and report unsafe working conditions or behavior.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five years of litigation experience in Texas courts.
  • Five years of experience supervising paralegals.
