Requirements
  • Be at least 23 years old.
  • Have at least one year of verifiable tractor-trailer experience.
  • Pass a road test administered by a Dohrn Transfer Driver Trainer.
  • Possess or obtain and maintain Hazardous Material and Tanker endorsements on a valid resident-state driver's license.
  • Possess only one valid driver's license issued by the driver's resident state and provide information about licenses held during the previous 36 months when required.
  • Have no citation or conviction for DUI, OWI, or reckless driving within the previous five years.
  • Maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Pass a Department of Transportation physical examination and functional screen.
  • Consent to and pass a pre-employment drug screen with a negative result.
  • Provide negative controlled-substance and alcohol test results from prior employers for the previous three years, with no prior evidence of controlled-substance use.
  • Have no refusal to submit to an alcohol or controlled-substance test during the previous three years.
  • Consent to a 10-year work-history check and explain employment gaps of 30 days or more.
  • Read and write English and perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Meet the physical requirements, including gripping, lifting and carrying freight up to 100 pounds, pushing and pulling up to 60 pounds, prolonged sitting, and frequent standing, walking, climbing, squatting, crouching, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and grasping.
  • Communicate with coworkers and customers to safely and properly perform essential job functions.
Responsibilities
  • Drive a commercial vehicle safely while transporting freight between terminals.
  • Load and unload trailers individually or with assistance from dockworkers, using mechanical freight-handling equipment where available and appropriate.
  • Perform frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of freight.
  • Secure freight using straps or other methods when required.
  • Inspect the vehicle for defects and safe operating conditions as required by law and company policy.
  • Comply with federal requirements for transporting hazardous materials.
  • Drive the tractor-trailer in all conditions in accordance with federal regulations and hours-of-service limitations.
  • Maintain driver's logs and other records required for compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Perform all duties according to company policies and procedures and comply with federal, state, and local regulations for safe commercial motor vehicle operation.
  • Use vision while driving, reading maps, and inspecting the truck; use smell to check for leaks; and use hearing to identify unusual or warning sounds from the vehicle.
