Requirements
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Excellent oral and written skills are required to relate effectively with managers, patients, families, and staff at various levels.
  • Demonstrated competency, as appropriate to the ages of patients served, in obtaining and interpreting information in terms of patients’ needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of the range of treatment needed by these patients.
  • Word processing experience is required, including mastery of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Access.
  • Experience with other personal computer software, including statistical database and presentation software, is essential.
  • Three years of related office experience are required, preferably in a medical setting.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and pulling of objects up to 50 pounds is required.
  • The position requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods and perform frequent fingering, handling, firm grasping, twisting, turning, stooping, bending, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level.
  • Normal and peripheral vision and hearing sufficient for normal conversation and telephone use are required.
Responsibilities
  • Answer the telephone in a timely manner and assist or direct callers to the appropriate person or department.
  • Receive and update patient information.
  • Maintain files in the appropriate order.
  • Establish and maintain accurate patient records and a record filing system.
  • Accurately complete the registration process in the current computer system.
  • Verify patient insurance benefits.
  • Process pre-certifications and authorizations according to the special requirements of the patient’s insurance company.
  • Schedule appointments while considering patient needs and utilizing clinic time efficiently.
  • Confirm appointments and maintain a full department schedule.
  • Communicate scheduling problems to the Department Manager.
  • Receive cash, checks, and credit card payments and prepare receipts.
  • Distribute mail to clinical staff.
  • Process requests for release of information in accordance with Medical Record Department policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous rehabilitation experience is preferred.
