Responsibilities
  • Lead and inspire a team of non-exempt service staff in the overall management of a residential dining operation while complying with food quality, cost, and occupational safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HUDS and University quality assurance policies and procedures related to food, sanitation, equipment and facility maintenance, safety, and related operations.
  • Assist with monitoring the FoodPro menu and inventory management system, including cost control, loss prevention, weekly inventory audits, and maintaining appropriate inventory levels.
  • Develop and maintain positive and professional community relationships, provide outstanding customer service, and ensure specialty diets and other nutritional needs are met.
  • Ensure kitchen equipment and related physical spaces are operational and in good repair, and alert the manager when repairs are needed.
  • Ensure the unit's physical plant is clean, organized, and in good repair, including walls, ceilings, floors, storage and receiving areas, servery, kitchen space, and dining rooms.
  • Develop and maintain a positive and collaborative working environment through communication, consistency, fairness, and continuous learning.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with frontline service staff through regular meetings, two-way communication, timely feedback, collaboration, and consistent visibility in the work unit.
  • Assign and direct the work of hourly and temporary staff to ensure excellent service delivery.
  • Address staff performance and recommend or deliver corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with union shop stewards.
  • Interview candidates and hire according to the approved staffing pattern.
  • Complete probationary employee evaluation forms as required.
  • Provide hospitality training and mentoring to the team and model high standards of customer service, care, and respect.
  • Communicate and implement performance expectations and work rules through regular coaching, mentoring, and staff meetings.
  • Work with Human Resources and HUDS Management to ensure employment practices comply with the current collective bargaining agreement and University personnel policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and regular Kronos timekeeping records, process timecards and absence requests, and use Kronos Dialer to fill open shifts in compliance with the union contract and HUDS policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate or bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or a related field.
