- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on gas and leachate collection equipment.
- Participate in regular health and safety meetings to help ensure on-site staff follow applicable regulations.
- Participate in training and other learning opportunities and perform other duties needed to support company operations.
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geological Sciences, or another related field or certificate is preferred.
- Experience working in landfill operations and system maintenance is desirable, with level definitions ranging from 0–2 years through 6 or more years.
- Knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, transducers, and Variable Frequency Drives is desirable.
- Knowledge of engineering concepts involved in designing and installing landfill gas systems, headers, and laterals is desirable.

McKean Landfill RNG facility begins operations. Casella Waste Systems and Waga Energy have started operations at a renewable natural gas facility at the McKean Landfill in Mount Jewett, Pennsylvania. The installation is the third project commissioned this year under the partners' 2023 agreement, following facilities at the Chemung County Landfill and Hyland Landfill. Built with 2,000 SCFM, or 3,200 m^3/h, of processing capacity, the McKean plant can produce up to 407,000 MMBtu, or 120 GWh, of renewable gas annually. It is expected to avoid 31,000 tonnes of CO[2]-equivalent emissions each year under US Environmental Protection Agency standards. Third project comes online. The commissioning completes the three-facility partnership agreement signed by Casella and Waga Energy in 2023. Casella operates across solid waste collection and disposal, transfer, recycling and organics services in the eastern United States, while Waga Energy specialises in producing renewable natural gas, also known as biomethane, from landfill gas. For landfill operators, converting captured gas into a grid-ready energy product offers a practical route to recover value from an existing waste stream. The McKean project brings that model to another Casella-operated site, with the partners combining site operations and gas supply with specialist gas-upgrading infrastructure. Upgrading landfill gas. The facility uses Waga Energy's patented WAGABOX(R) technology to upgrade landfill gas into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas. Landfill gas volumes at McKean are expected to increase over time, and output from the facility will ramp up progressively in line with the available gas supply. At full stated capacity, the site can generate up to 407,000 MMBtu of renewable gas per year. Rather than being used solely at the landfill, the gas is injected directly into the National Fuel Gas network, supplying the region with a renewable alternative to fossil natural gas. Waga Energy's approach centres on treating landfill gas so it can enter existing gas grid infrastructure. This creates an energy pathway for a material that is produced as organic waste decomposes at landfill sites, while allowing the resulting gas to serve households and businesses connected to the network. A long term operating model. Under the agreement, Waga Energy fully funded construction of each of the three facilities. The company will own and operate them for 20 years, while the revenue generated by renewable natural gas sales is shared with Casella. That structure provides a clear division of responsibilities. Casella supplies the landfill setting and manages the waste and resource infrastructure associated with its sites, while Waga Energy delivers the specialist processing plant and takes responsibility for its long-term operation. The model also links both organisations to the commercial performance of the gas produced. The McKean facility adds to Waga Energy's wider operating portfolio. The company currently operates 38 renewable natural gas production units across France, Spain, Canada and the USA, with an installed capacity of more than 7.1 million MMBtu, or 2.1 TWh, per year. It also has 19 units under construction worldwide. Regional renewable gas supply. The McKean project gives Pennsylvania another operational source of grid-injected renewable natural gas and marks the completion of the initial three-site Casella partnership. Its anticipated annual emissions avoidance of 31,000 tonnes of CO[2]-equivalent reflects the potential climate value assigned to capturing and upgrading landfill gas rather than allowing it to remain an unmanaged emissions source. For Casella, the facility extends resource recovery beyond collection, recycling and organics operations. For Waga Energy, it demonstrates the application of its technology through a multi-site agreement with a regional waste management business. With production set to rise as landfill gas volumes develop, the project is positioned to provide an enduring supply of renewable gas to the National Fuel Gas network.
