Requirements
  • The candidate must be a board-certified or board-eligible nephrologist and able to obtain medical licensure in Massachusetts.
  • The candidate must hold an M.D. degree from an accredited school.
  • The candidate must have completed a residency in internal medicine.
  • The candidate must have completed a fellowship in nephrology.
  • The candidate must hold certification and licensure in Massachusetts.
  • The candidate must be board certified in internal medicine.
  • The candidate must be board certified in nephrology or eligible for board certification with certification expected.
Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical care focused on kidney disease in patients living with diabetes.
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient subspecialty services, including evaluation of acute kidney injury, critical care consultation, continuous renal replacement therapy, acute and chronic hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, nephrolithiasis, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and kidney transplant recipients.
  • Collaborate with adult diabetes physicians, nurse practitioners, diabetes educators, nurses, dietitians, exercise physiologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient management.
  • Perform academic and scholarly activities and participate in basic or clinical research.
  • Serve as a member of the medical staff of the hospitals where the physician practices and fulfill hospital and Center bylaw obligations.
  • Collaborate with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Nephrology Division.
  • Treat patients with general kidney disorders by evaluating and diagnosing disorders, choosing appropriate therapy, and providing ongoing management assistance.
  • Treat patients with diabetic kidney disease by evaluating and diagnosing conditions, recognizing complications, choosing treatment to minimize complications, and providing ongoing management assistance.
  • Treat general medical problems within the context of a referral practice, including evaluating health status, diagnosing diseases besides diabetes, providing general medical therapy, referring patients when additional expertise is needed, and collaborating with primary care physicians.
  • Ensure patients are seen and evaluated by diabetes healthcare professionals when appropriate.
  • Participate in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students in inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in teaching continuing medical education and other educational activities sponsored by the Kidney and Hypertension Section or Joslin Diabetes Center.
  • Participate in academic teaching pursuits and mentorship and seek funding for research activity as needed.
  • Participate on committees as needed and actively attend and participate in conferences.
  • Fulfill departmental teaching obligations, participate in conferences with house staff, discuss patients and cases with house staff, and communicate about inpatient management.
  • Work effectively with the Section Chief, Chief Medical Officer, Center Administrators, and other administrative personnel.
  • Present lectures and promote the program to physicians, hospital staff, and potential referral sources.
  • Participate in Joslin community activities such as lectures, health fairs, and radio programs.
