- A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License is required.
- Mechanical Engineer I requires four years of full-time experience in mechanical engineering.
- A master's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college may be accepted as equivalent to one year of full-time mechanical engineering experience.
- Mechanical Engineer II and III require at least one year within the last three years as a major contributor or project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
- Knowledge of engineering principles applied to equipment.
- Knowledge of all applicable National Fire Protection Association standards, local codes, and state regulations.
- Proficiency in computer-aided design software, Bentley MicroStation, and Microsoft Office.
- Design and supervise construction and rehabilitation of bus depots, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning; Building Management Systems; bulk fluid systems; diesel and compressed natural gas fueling systems; bus washers; vehicle lifts; oil-water separators; plumbing; boilers; air compressors; roll-up doors; and other mechanical equipment systems.
- Design and install major industrial building systems, including heat recovery units, air-conditioning systems, air-handling units, boilers, and heating and hot-water systems using natural gas, fuel oil, or both.
- Inspect equipment and materials for acceptance and troubleshoot heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning equipment.
- Prepare construction documents, including drawings and technical specifications.
- Document work and communicate with vendors and contractors.
- Provide support to Mechanical Engineers for functions related to bus structures and air systems, including undercarriages, bulkheads, axles, engines, transmissions, interlocks, compressors, cooling systems, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, and wheelchair systems.
- Conduct research, investigations, studies, and examinations related to bus functions, parts, and components to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Create and maintain technical drawings using computer-aided design software.
- Write specifications and prepare quantity estimates.
- Participate in other related mechanical engineering work as required.
