Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in athletic training is required.
  • A State of Wisconsin Athletic Trainer license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 3 months of hire.
Responsibilities
  • Provide athletic training services and evening and weekend event coverage for contracted schools and non-school events, while maintaining accurate event coverage, travel, and mileage records.
  • Perform injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; recommend physician referral when appropriate; and document injuries and referrals according to department standards.
  • Communicate with physicians, coaches, and parents regarding athletic injury evaluations and recommendations for triage and plans of care.
  • Serve as liaison and coordinator of outreach services between athletic directors and the Rehabilitation Services Manager.
  • Provide input to athletic directors regarding school supply budgets, maintain supplies, and maintain a clean and orderly athletic training room.
  • Provide expertise and supervision for performance enhancement and injury prevention services, and develop patient education programs and tools for athletic training and sports medicine.
  • Coordinate and provide athletic training services to community youth and adult recreational athletic leagues and community-sponsored athletic tournaments and events.
  • Provide patient care in the rehabilitation services department as necessary, collaborating with physical and occupational therapists under general supervision of a physical therapist when required and following state and federal regulations.
  • Work with sports medicine or orthopedic providers in their clinics as necessary, including rooming patients; collecting histories, vital signs, medications, and allergies; educating patients on exercises; sizing and applying splints and braces; applying casts as directed; providing crutch training; preparing patients for injections; performing examinations within athletic training scope of practice; preparing charts; retrieving needed information; and cleaning and disinfecting treatment rooms.
  • Guide and support patients through the sports medicine care continuum by facilitating specialist and support-service appointments, serving as a primary contact for patients and families, and providing immediate injury-care education within scope of practice.
  • Plan and coordinate sports medicine community outreach events and public presentations with marketing and public relations personnel, and market services through various media including social networking.
  • Provide exercise and strengthening expertise in the wellness center for post-discharge rehabilitation patients and other members as directed.
  • Present seminars and workshops as requested.
  • Participate on assigned committees, work groups, and task forces.
  • Provide input on department policies.
  • Attend mandatory hospital in-services.
  • Attend appropriate continuing education programs to improve skills and advance individual competency.
