Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
  • Completion of Nurse Aide Training is required.
  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • Must be able to proficiently operate a computer, the Internet, and basic office equipment.
  • Must hold an active certificate conferred by the Ohio Department of Health's Nurse Aide Training Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP), or be eligible to enter the program, graduate, and pass a State Approved Competency Evaluation within 120 days from the date of employment.
  • Must obtain and maintain mandatory state and federal requirements and certifications for practice or occupation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with residents and nursing staff.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and speak English.
  • Special care/dementia care employees will receive additional training in caring for and treating residents with dementia.
  • Must be able to work with elderly residents, families, and other health care staff members.
  • Must adhere to all terms and conditions set forth in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with lifting, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and lifts, in accordance with specific resident safety needs.
  • Assist residents with ambulation, with or without self-help devices, as instructed.
  • Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  • Ensure call lights are within residents' reach and answer them promptly.
  • Frequently check residents who are unable to call for help.
  • Ensure residents' personal care needs are met in accordance with their wishes.
  • Promptly report all changes in residents' conditions to a supervisor.
  • Change bed linens.
  • Straighten dresser tops and stands.
  • Maintain cleanliness of resident units, the central bathing area, treatment and supply rooms, workrooms, and linen closets.
  • Identify and report abnormal skin conditions.
  • Turn bedfast residents as instructed.
  • Provide range-of-motion exercises.
  • Assist with application of adaptive devices.
  • Assist with food service by positioning residents appropriately for meals, placing appropriate utensils within reach, serving food, supporting proper hydration, distributing snacks, and reporting as required.
  • Follow appropriate safety and security guidelines, procedures, and protocols for residents in special care.
  • Maintain appropriate and effective communication with residents and their families or other significant relationships.
  • Provide care, treatment, and services in accordance with appropriate dementia care protocols.
  • Participate in relevant educational and training activities as appropriate.
  • Document accurately and on time in PointClickCare.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
