Requirements
  • A Master’s degree in nursing is required.
  • Graduation from an academic program in the nursing specialty field accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education is required.
  • Current national certification in the required Nurse Practitioner specialty from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, or another recognized national nursing certification organization is required.
  • At least one year of experience within the last two years in a primary care provider role seeing patients of all ages is required.
  • A current, full, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide a full range of outcome-based Nurse Practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the medical treatment facility, including general screening, medical care, and examinations for routine, acute, and chronic conditions involving any organ system.
  • Provide immunizations and diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated.
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidence-based educational lectures, and participate in in-service training for staff members.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and consultation with a physician when needed.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care through formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Communicate and collaborate with diverse groups to inform the healthcare team of plans and actions and provide education benefiting patients, families, and the organization.
  • Recognize conditions requiring isolation and ensure universal precautions are used during patient encounters.
  • Attend staff meetings for case discussion, continuing education, continuous quality improvement, and safety activities.
