Moen and Stand Insurance offer water leak detection system with premium discounts to cut $15,000 home damage risk

Moen and Stand Insurance have launched a programme linking active leak detection technology to insurance premium discounts for homeowners. The partnership pairs Moen's Flo Shutoff device, which monitors water pressure and automatically shuts off water supply when catastrophic leaks are detected, with Stand's insurance coverage. Stand policyholders can access the device through a one-time purchase or a 36-month contract for under $25 monthly. In Florida, Stand is offering the first 500 enrollees a $49 credit towards the subscription activation fee alongside annual premium savings. Water damage averages over $15,000 per household loss, making it among the most common home insurance claims. The programme marks the first time at Stand that leak detection technology is directly linked to insurance pricing. Policyholders in older homes without recent plumbing renovations may also have limited water endorsement requirements waived by activating the device.

Stand expands Florida presence with launch of voluntary hurricane insurance product.

Stand expands Florida presence with launch of voluntary hurricane insurance product. Stand, a property insurance and risk mitigation company that uses advanced modelling to assess catastrophe exposure at the individual home level, has introduced its first voluntary hurricane insurance product in Florida. The launch marks an expansion of the company's activities in the state and reflects its strategy of linking insurance pricing to property-level resilience improvements. The new offering is designed around the idea that homeowners can reduce both their exposure to hurricane damage and their insurance costs by making targeted upgrades to their properties. Rather than relying primarily on historical loss data and geographical risk assessments, Stand says it evaluates how specific building features influence a home's ability to withstand severe weather events. At the centre of the programme is the company's proprietary Stand World Model, a physics-based platform that analyses how catastrophic events interact with individual structures. According to Stand, the technology examines a property's characteristics to estimate how it may perform under extreme conditions and identifies areas where resilience can be improved. The model was initially developed and tested in California communities exposed to wildfire risk and has now been adapted for hurricane-related hazards in Florida. Stand also provides support to homeowners seeking to strengthen their properties. The company works with approved contractors, helps identify suitable mitigation measures and assists with coordinating improvement projects. For certain early customers, Stand is offering smart water leak detection devices and covering the first year of monitoring costs. The company has additionally secured discounted rates through selected contractors and may provide financing assistance for eligible mitigation work. The insurer says homeowners who complete qualifying upgrades may receive long-term premium reductions. Depending on the property's characteristics and the improvements undertaken, measures such as installing roof anchor clips and water shut-off valves could reduce homeowners' insurance premiums by as much as 40%. The launch represents Stand's first open-market insurance product in Florida. The company previously entered the state through Florida's Citizens depopulation programme, which transfers policies from the state-backed insurer of last resort to private market carriers. Stand says the new product is intended to broaden insurance options for qualifying homeowners outside that framework. Florida has faced sustained challenges in its property insurance market, with repeated hurricane losses placing pressure on insurers and policyholders alike. Rising claims costs and carrier failures have contributed to growing reliance on Citizens over the past two decades. According to Stand, the state has experienced 94 weather and climate disasters causing at least $1 billion in damage since 1980. Commenting on the launch, Dan Preston, co-founder and chief executive officer of Stand, said: "Aerospace engineers have modelled how wind tears apart structures for decades, and that science is at the core of how we think about home safety. We're bringing that same rigor to Florida by working with homeowners to understand what makes their homes stronger and rewarding them for taking action, instead of just charging them more because of where they live." Stand said its Florida business is supported by a team with extensive experience in the state's insurance sector, while its applied physics division combines expertise in aerospace engineering, machine learning and 3D modelling to assess catastrophe exposure at the level of individual homes. The company underwrites and services policies issued by Concert Specialty Insurance Company, which holds an AM Best financial strength rating of A-, in California, and by Stand Insurance Exchange, which is rated A by Demotech, in Florida. Stand said its insurance programmes are supported by a panel of highly rated reinsurance providers, including Arch, RenaissanceRe, Hannover Re, Nephila and Hiscox. The company is backed by investors including Eclipse, Inspired Capital and Lowercarbon.

California's crippling home insurance market faces massive shake up as savior emerges.

California's crippling home insurance market faces massive shake up as savior emerges. By News Room 26 May 2026 3 Mins Read California's crippling home insurance crisis could be saved after a wildfire defense company launched a game-changing product to stop houses burning down. Frontline Wildfire Defense offers a sprinkler system that automatically sprays down a property with a light mist when a blaze is close by. The product, the company says, can shake up the insurance market. "It's like a giant car wash," Greg Dexter, a Healdsburg homeowner who installed the sprinklers on his eaves and roof, told NBC Bay Area. Dexter had brought Frontline after after his insurance company dropped him after deeming his home too risky. Such sprinkler defense systems, which can cost $15,000 to $30,000 for most properties, is basically a self-defense rig to shield against wildfires, he added. It seems there's proof it works from last year's huge Los Angeles wildfires. Of the 61 customer homes in the LA fire zones, 59 survived, said Frontline founder Harry Statter. Those results caught the attention of insurers. "We've had a number of insurance companies contact us," Statter said. "They want to develop programs." Now, Frontline Wildfire Defense has proudly declared on its website that it is backed by the insurance industry. "We're bringing you something homeowners have never seen before. Namely, active wildfire defense that's being used in the assessment of your home insurance," the company said. "It's not just about your zip code anymore. It's about how your home defends itself," it added. Frontline partnered with Stand Insurance, a San Francisco startup. The partnership gives homeowners with the system up to a 25% discount. More such similar partnerships could come. The potential solution comes as the city and state are going through an insurance crisis. Too many people are on the state's FAIR plan, the state's insurance program which provides basic fire coverage for those in the California with "high risk properties" that major insurers won't cover. Thanks for signing up! The program warned last year it were running out of money after paying out thousands of claims to victims of the Palisades and Eaton fires, and such homeowners are facing a premium hike of 30%. At the same time, due to the costly devastation, private insurers have made threats to leave the state if rate hikes aren't granted for them or other factors like wildfire mitigation aren't implemented. For Dexter, the sprinklers have provided a great relief. "It's not gonna stop the vineyard from burning, but it's gonna sprinkle the whole house," Dexter said. "It'll rain around the whole house and the embers will go out."

Stand and Frontline partner to cut California wildfire insurance premiums by 60% with active defence tech

Stand, a California-based insurer, has partnered with Frontline Wildfire Defense to offer reduced insurance premiums for homes equipped with proactive wildfire defence technology. The partnership addresses California's $1.3 trillion home insurance coverage gap as major carriers exit fire-prone regions. Stand uses a physics-based model simulating fire, wind and ember interactions with individual structures. Homes fitted with Frontline's automated defence system show up to 60% decreased modelled risk, translating directly into lower premiums. Frontline's system provides 24/7 exterior protection through zoned sprinklers, biodegradable foam and remote monitoring. During the 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, the system protected 96% of customers' homes. The programme is available statewide to California homeowners, subject to regional capacity. Stand is backed by Eclipse, Inspired Capital and Lowercarbon, whilst Frontline is backed by Norwest.
