Engineering ManagementEngineering Leadership

About the job

Requirements
  • Experience leading and managing a small engineering team, or working as a technical lead or player-coach ready to formalize into people management.
  • Ability to review, contribute to, and make sound decisions within a modern TypeScript codebase.
  • People-leadership skills in coaching, feedback, performance management, and developing engineers across levels.
  • Ability to decompose and sequence work, manage dependencies and risk, and communicate status honestly.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders and manage upward, across, and outward.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a lean operating model, with a bias toward leverage and automation over headcount.
  • Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure, AWS, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD automation.
  • Familiarity with observability/APM and incident-response tooling, and ability to uphold operational and quality standards for regulated financial products.
  • Ability to leverage AI tooling to increase team throughput and reduce toil.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of 2–4 engineers, owning their day-to-day management, growth, and performance.
  • Own sprint-to-sprint delivery, including planning, prioritization, sequencing, and clear communication of scope, timeline, and risk.
  • Manage individual performance and development through regular one-on-ones, actionable feedback, career-growth conversations, and difficult conversations when needed.
  • Contribute hands-on to the codebase on ambiguous, load-bearing, or unblocking work, while leaving well-scoped growth opportunities to the team.
  • Partner with Product, Design, and peer engineering teams to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and translate business goals into deliverable work.
  • Own team health and operational quality, including on-call, incident response, and quality and compliance standards in a regulated financial domain.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, continuous-learning, and inclusive team culture.
  • Champion high-leverage, AI-forward ways of working that increase team throughput without compromising quality.
  • Remove blockers, shield the team from unnecessary noise, and create conditions for engineers to do their best work.

About the company

Red Ventures owns and runs consumer brands that help people make decisions about money, travel and their homes. Bankrate compares loan, savings and credit card rates, The Points Guy covers credit card rewards and airline and hotel loyalty points, Lonely Planet publishes travel guides, and Allconnect helps people set up home services when they move. It makes money through partnerships with banks and other companies that pay to reach customers through its sites, and it also lends directly through Sage Home Loans, its mortgage business. Red Ventures was founded in 2000 and is based in Fort Mill, South Carolina, just south of Charlotte, North Carolina.

What believers are saying

  • Sage Home Loans won Robinhood: since November 2025, Robinhood Gold members get mortgage rates at least 0.75% below average.
  • Early-career staff move up: a March 2026 list built from promotion, pay and retention data gave Red Ventures Platinum status.
  • Benefits go past basics: US staff and their families get free therapy, plus fertility, adoption and surrogacy support.

What critics are saying

  • Plan on commuting: Red Ventures asks for 3 to 4 office days a week, varying by team.
  • Expect leadership changes: Bankrate named an outside CEO in October 2025, four months after The Points Guy did.
  • Demand swings with the economy: in 2022, Moody's said its consumer finance and travel units fell sharply in the pandemic.

What makes Red Ventures unique

  • It shares a health business with an insurer: RVO Health, co-owned with UnitedHealth Group, runs Healthline and Healthgrades.
  • Bankrate's rate surveys are economic data: in May 2026, the St. Louis Fed's public database added 40 years of them.
  • Red Ventures sells its growth skills too: its RV Home unit embeds data and growth teams inside home-services brands.
