Requirements
  • At least 5 years of full-time software engineering experience using Python.
  • Experience with backend development in a cloud environment, including cloud compute, storage, and system monitoring.
  • Experience with agile engineering practices such as test automation and continuous integration and delivery of high-quality systems.
  • Experience using version control and continuous integration and continuous delivery tools, such as GitHub Actions.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute and add value across the entire marketing platform.
  • Build client applications that empower marketers.
  • Oversee backend components, integrations, and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with data science and marketing teams to optimize campaigns and drive subscriber acquisition.
  • Integrate with platforms including Meta and Snap to manage advertising campaigns.
  • Grow colleagues’ skills by providing clear technical feedback through pairing, design, and code review.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies, including advancements in streaming data processing and related technologies.
  • Support and understand the value of journalistic independence and demonstrate commitment to the mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with modern Python web development using Flask or FastAPI.
  • Experience building data pipelines using SQL, dbt, Fivetran, Airflow, or interest in learning these tools.
  • Experience building front-end components using modern JavaScript libraries such as React.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders to understand pain points, observe patterns, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Understanding of the different phases of the machine learning product lifecycle and experience working alongside data scientists to develop machine learning products.
  • Familiarity with marketing technology.
