About the company

NVIDIA designs the chips and software that power artificial intelligence and sells complete data center systems to cloud providers, AI labs, and other businesses, along with GeForce graphics cards for gamers. Its GPUs, chips that perform thousands of calculations at once, became the main hardware for AI after researchers used them to train the AlexNet image-recognition model in 2012. NVIDIA connects many GPUs with its own processors and networking gear into servers and rack-sized computers, and developers program them through its CUDA software. These systems bring in most of its sales, and it also makes chips for cars and robots. Jensen Huang co-founded NVIDIA in 1993, and it is based in Santa Clara, California.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • AI demand is still surging: data center sales rose 117% to $89 billion in the quarter ending July 2026.
  • Stock grants are worth more: shares hit a record in October 2026, up 28% for the year.
  • Engineering dominates hiring: 1,722 of NVIDIA's 2,686 job listings in October 2026 were in engineering.

What critics are saying

  • Big buyers are hedging: Meta's February 2026 agreement covers 6 gigawatts of AMD chips.
  • Financing its buyers is getting harder: lenders pushed back on NVIDIA's $500 billion chip-backed loan plan in October 2026.
  • Staff described long hours: Bloomberg's August 2024 interviews reported seven-day weeks, late nights and shouting matches.

What makes NVIDIA unique

  • Rivals must match its software too: over 7.5 million developers use CUDA and other NVIDIA tools to program its chips.
  • The CEO has a broad direct staff: Jensen Huang says over 60 people report to him, without one-on-ones.
  • People rarely leave: NVIDIA's yearly staff turnover is 3.7%, versus a 21.9% average across the tech industry.

Nvidia's GTC Berlin kicks off October 20 as stock rises 15% and $150B buyback grows

Nvidia holds its GTC Berlin AI Conference today, with workshops on October 20 and chief executive officer Jensen Huang's keynote on October 21. Investors will watch for details on the company's European plans, the Vera Rubin rack-scale platforms, and customer deployments. Nvidia has reportedly committed nearly $10 billion to Europe's technology ecosystem. Executives from Mercedes-Benz, Siemens Healthineers, Deutsche Telekom, Mistral AI, and Nebius are on the agenda, which focuses on agentic AI, robotics, and industrial AI. Nvidia's stock is up 15% this year. Second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue rose 106% to $96.2 billion, and the company guided for $108 billion in the third quarter, plus or minus 2%. Analysts' mean target price of $328.75 implies a 51% upside.

Nvidia-backed Pigment raises $250M at $2.3B valuation to take on Microsoft

French AI company Pigment has raised $250 million at a valuation of $2.3 billion, as it takes on Microsoft's Excel and PowerPoint. The Scaleup Europe Fund led the round. Nvidia, World Innovation Lab, a fund based in the US and Japan, and existing investors Iconiq, IVP, and Meritech Capital also took part. The funding is due to be announced Tuesday. Nvidia chief executive officer Jensen Huang revealed the chip maker's investment last week during a visit to France. Pigment also plans to add a few Asian investors to the round.

Amazon's TorchNeuron lets PyTorch code run on Trainium chips, challenging Nvidia's CUDA lead

Amazon is introducing software that lets developers move existing code to its AI chips with minimal changes. The system, called TorchNeuron, lets PyTorch-based applications run on Amazon's Trainium chips after a single configuration adjustment. Amazon presented the tool at a developer conference in Silicon Valley and plans to release it free as an open-source project. The move challenges Nvidia, whose CUDA software has helped developers optimise AI workloads on its graphics processing units. Easier switching between chip platforms could give cloud customers more choice in computing infrastructure. Alphabet is also promoting its own AI processors as big tech firms look for alternatives to Nvidia. Nvidia, meanwhile, has introduced an Open Agent Safety Platform to help developers manage AI agents.

Nvidia's Huang says AGI has arrived as big tech plans $745B in AI spending

Nvidia chief executive officer Jensen Huang said in September that "AGI has arrived," pointing to OpenAI's GPT-6 and the Nvidia chips behind it. Other tech leaders disagree. OpenAI's Sam Altman said the company was "not quite yet" there, while Alphabet's Sundar Pichai expects artificial general intelligence (AGI) shortly after 2030. Big tech is spending heavily regardless. Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Microsoft plan to spend up to $745 billion on capital projects this year, mostly on AI data centres. Chipmakers and cloud providers stand to gain either way. Nvidia's sales more than doubled to $96.2 billion last quarter, Broadcom's AI chip sales reached $16.7 billion, and Google Cloud revenue grew 82% to $24.8 billion.

doubleAI raises $200M at $1B+ valuation for AI that rewrites code to run faster

Israeli AI developer doubleAI has raised $200 million in a Series A round co-led by Lightspeed and Bessemer. Nvidia Corp., Dell Technologies Inc. and several others joined. CTech reported that the round values the Tel Aviv-based company at more than $1 billion. DoubleAI's model, Maxwell, makes software more efficient by optimising a program's binary rather than its source code. The company says Maxwell sped up 55% of the algorithms in Nvidia's cuGraph library by a factor of two or more. It also improved pandas' performance on a query speed benchmark by a factor of 38. The company plans to sell Maxwell to enterprises that want to cut AI hardware usage. The Wall Street Journal reported that doubleAI will spend half the round on 1,000 Nvidia B300 Blackwell graphics cards.
