Dentons is a global law firm made from a series of mergers that created one of the world's largest legal networks. It offers a wide range of legal services to individuals, businesses, and governments across many countries. The firm works by combining local law firms under one brand while letting regional offices keep some independence, using a Swiss Verein structure to operate as a single organization with many local teams. Dentons differentiates itself by its polycentric approach—no single headquarters and deep roots in local markets—along with growth through joining other firms to expand its reach, including a notable period of expansion with Dacheng in China. Its goal is to provide accessible legal help worldwide through a connected network of lawyers who understand local laws and markets.

Dentons Canada captures 10-strong employment team from Norton Rose Fulbright. The firm anticipates that the arrival of a 10-lawyer team specialising in labour relations, workplace safety, executive employment and litigation will make an immediate difference to clients. Dentons Canada has bolstered its employment and labour offerings with the appointment of a 10-strong team led by former Norton Rose Fulbright partners Richard Charney, John Mastoras and Daniel McDonald. The trio is joined in Toronto by counsels Jordan Winch, Samantha Cass and Nicole McLean, senior associate Josh Hoffman, and associates Valerie Li and Brian Wood. The firm has also welcomed associate Bailey Pelletier to its Ottawa office. The team's combined experience spans labour relations, executive employment, workplace safety, and employment and human rights litigation, with particular expertise providing counsel to unionised and federally regulated employers. Toronto managing partner Blair McCreadie said the group's arrival "creates a market-leading team" capable of servicing clients' needs in "human resources, labour relations, pensions, benefits and business immigration". "When you combine this group's market strength and profile with our unmatched national and global platforms, you create something the very best talent wants to be part of," McCreadie continued. "Rick, John and Dan bring a reputation built over decades, and that connects directly to work we are already doing for clients in Ontario and beyond." Lauded as "one of Canada's most recognized employer-side labour and employment lawyers", Charney brings almost three decades of experience to Dentons. He spent the past 27 years at Norton Rose Fulbright, including a decade as global employment and labour head, with a practice focused on advising and representing boards, management teams and chief executives on sensitive workplace issues, from restructuring and executive employment to collective bargaining and labour disputes. Mastoras has worked alongside Charney for almost three decades, having joined Norton Rose Fulbright in 1998 and climbing the ranks before his promotion to senior partner in 2014. He specialises in labour arbitration, collective bargaining and labour board disputes at both provincial and federal levels. McDonald offers counsel to employers across the full range of workplace issues, including occupational health and safety compliance and defence, workplace policies and collective bargaining. He joined Norton Rose Fulbright in 2006 following a brief stint as an articling student at Hicks Morley, making partner in 2015. "The depth and momentum of our employment and labour practice is something we are genuinely proud of, and this expansion is a reflection of both," commented Andy Pushalik, head of Dentons Canada's employment and labour team. "Across the country, employers are facing change on several fronts at once - restructuring, trade pressure, evolving workplace expectations and an unpredictable labour relations environment," Pushalik continued. "This team has spent their careers in exactly those moments, and our clients will feel the difference immediately."

With this launch, ECIJA is extending its innovation and transformation model to the tax sphere, broadening an offering that bridges the Legal and Tax functions and responds to organisations' growing need to evolve towards models that are more efficient, technology-driven, data-oriented and closely integrated with the business. At the helm of this new capability will be María del Carmen González de Luis, a lawyer with over 12 years' experience advising major national and international groups, IBEX 35-listed companies and multinationals across various sectors on corporate tax, tax governance and tax function transformation projects. The creation of Tax Innovation reinforces ECIJA's strategy of integrating innovation and artificial intelligence across the board into its service delivery model, developing new capabilities that combine legal and tax expertise, consultancy, technology and transformation to comprehensively address its clients' main challenges.
